அப்பொழுது எப்பிராயீம் மனுஷர் அவனை நோக்கி: நீ மீதியானியர்மேல் யுத்தம் பண்ணப்போகிறபோது, எங்களை அழைப்பிக்கவில்லையே, இப்படி நீ எங்களுக்குச் செய்தது என்ன என்று, அவனோடே பலத்த வாக்குவாதம்பண்ணினார்.

And the men of Ephraim said unto him, Why hast thou served us thus, that thou calledst us not, when thou wentest to fight with the Midianites? And they did chide with him sharply.

அதற்கு அவன்: நீங்கள் செய்ததற்கு நான் செய்தது எம்மாத்திரம்? அபியேஸ்ரியரின் திராட்சப்பழத்தின் முழு அறுப்பைப்பார்க்கிலும், எப்பிராயீமரின் மீதியான அறுப்பு அதிகம் அல்லவா?

And he said unto them, What have I done now in comparison of you? Is not the gleaning of the grapes of Ephraim better than the vintage of Abiezer?

God hath delivered into your hands the princes of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb: and what was I able to do in comparison of you? Then their anger was abated toward him, when he had said that.

And Gideon came to Jordan, and passed over, he, and the three hundred men that were with him, faint, yet pursuing them.

And he said unto the men of Succoth, Give, I pray you, loaves of bread unto the people that follow me; for they be faint, and I am pursuing after Zebah and Zalmunna, kings of Midian.

அதற்குச் சுக்கோத்தின் பிரபுக்கள்: உன் சேனைக்கு நாங்கள் அப்பம் கொடுக்கிறதற்குச் சேபா சல்முனா என்பவர்களின் கை உன் கைவசமாயிற்றோ என்றார்கள்.

And the princes of Succoth said, Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna now in thine hand, that we should give bread unto thine army?

அப்பொழுது கிதியோன் அவர்களை நோக்கி: கர்த்தர் சேபாவையும் சல்முனாவையும் என் கையில் ஒப்புக்கொடுக்கும்போது, உங்கள் மாம்சத்தை வனாந்தரத்தின் முள்ளுகளாலும் நெரிஞ்சில்களாலும் கிழித்துவிடுவேன் என்று சொல்லி,

And Gideon said, Therefore when the LORD hath delivered Zebah and Zalmunna into mine hand, then I will tear your flesh with the thorns of the wilderness and with briers.

அவ்விடம் விட்டு, பெனூவேலுக்குப் போய், அவ்வூராரிடத்தில் அந்தப்படியே கேட்டான்; சுக்கோத்தின் மனுஷர் பிரதியுத்தரமாகச் சொன்னபடியே பெனூவேலின் மனுஷரும் அவனுக்குச் சொன்னார்கள்.

And he went up thence to Penuel, and spake unto them likewise: and the men of Penuel answered him as the men of Succoth had answered him.

அப்பொழுது அவன், பெனூவேலின் மனுஷரைப் பார்த்து: நான் சமாதானத்தோடே திரும்பிவரும்போது, இந்தக் கோபுரத்தை இடித்துப்போடுவேன் என்றான்.

And he spake also unto the men of Penuel, saying, When I come again in peace, I will break down this tower.

சேபாவும் சல்முனாவும் அவர்களோடேகூட அவர்களுடைய சேனைகளும் ஏறக்குறைய பதினையாயிரம்பேர் கர்கோரில் இருந்தார்கள்; பட்டயம் உருவத்தக்க லட்சத்து இருபதினாயிரம்பேர் விழுந்தபடியால், கிழக்கத்தியாரின் சகல சேனையிலும் இவர்கள் மாத்திரம் மீந்திருந்தார்கள்.

Now Zebah and Zalmunna were in Karkor, and their hosts with them, about fifteen thousand men, all that were left of all the hosts of the children of the east: for there fell an hundred and twenty thousand men that drew sword.

கிதியோன் கூடாரங்களிலே குடியிருக்கிறவர்கள் வழியாய் நோபாகுக்கும், யொகிபெயாவுக்கும் கிழக்கே போய், அந்தச் சேனை பயமில்லை என்றிருந்தபோது, அதை முறிய அடித்தான்.

And Gideon went up by the way of them that dwelt in tents on the east of Nobah and Jogbehah, and smote the host: for the host was secure.

சேபாவும் சல்முனாவும் ஓடிப்போனார்கள்; அவனோ அவர்களைத் தொடர்ந்து, சேபா சல்முனா என்னும் மீதியானியரின் இரண்டு ராஜாக்களையும் பிடித்து, சேனை முழுவதையும் கலங்கடித்தான்.

And when Zebah and Zalmunna fled, he pursued after them, and took the two kings of Midian, Zebah and Zalmunna, and discomfited all the host.

யோவாசின் குமாரனாகிய கிதியோன் யுத்தம்பண்ணி, சூரியன் உதிக்கும் முன்னே திரும்பிவந்தபோது,

And Gideon the son of Joash returned from battle before the sun was up,

சுக்கோத்தின் மனுஷரில் ஒரு வாலிபனைப் பிடித்து, அவனிடத்தில் விசாரித்தான்; அவன் சுக்கோத்தின் பிரபுக்களும் அதின் மூப்பருமாகிய எழுபத்தேழு மனுஷரின் பேரை அவனுக்கு எழுதிக்கொடுத்தான்.

And caught a young man of the men of Succoth, and enquired of him: and he described unto him the princes of Succoth, and the elders thereof, even threescore and seventeen men.

And he came unto the men of Succoth, and said, Behold Zebah and Zalmunna, with whom ye did upbraid me, saying, Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna now in thine hand, that we should give bread unto thy men that are weary?

பட்டணத்தின் மூப்பரைப் பிடித்து, வனாந்தரத்தின் முள்ளுகளையும் நெரிஞ்சில்களையும் கொண்டுவந்து, அவைகளால் சுக்கோத்தின் மனுஷருக்குப் புத்திவரப்பண்ணி,

And he took the elders of the city, and thorns of the wilderness and briers, and with them he taught the men of Succoth.

பெனூவேலின் கோபுரத்தை இடித்து, அவ்வூர் மனுஷரையும் கொன்றுபோட்டான்.

And he beat down the tower of Penuel, and slew the men of the city.

Then said he unto Zebah and Zalmunna, What manner of men were they whom ye slew at Tabor? And they answered, As thou art, so were they; each one resembled the children of a king.

அப்பொழுது அவன்: அவர்கள் என் சகோதரரும் என் தாயின் பிள்ளைகளுமாயிருந்தார்கள்; அவர்களை உயிரோடே வைத்திருந்தீர்களானால். உங்களைக் கொல்லாதிருப்பேன் என்று கர்த்தரின் ஜீவனைக்கொண்டு சொல்லுகிறேன் என்று சொல்லி,

And he said, They were my brethren, even the sons of my mother: as the LORD liveth, if ye had saved them alive, I would not slay you.

தன் மூத்தகுமாரனாகிய யெத்தேரை நோக்கி: நீ எழுந்து, இவர்களை வெட்டிப்போடு என்றான்; அந்த வாலிபன் இளைஞனானபடியால் பயந்து தன் பட்டயத்தை உருவாதிருந்தான்.

And he said unto Jether his firstborn, Up, and slay them. But the youth drew not his sword: for he feared, because he was yet a youth.

அப்பொழுது சேபாவும் சல்முனாவும்: நீரே எழுந்து எங்கள்மேல் விழும்; மனுஷன் எப்படியோ அப்படியே அவன் பெலனும் இருக்கும் என்றார்கள்; கிதியோன் எழுந்து, சேபாவையும் சல்முனாவையும் கொன்றுபோட்டு, அவர்கள் ஒட்டகங்களின் கழுத்துகளில் இருந்த சாந்துக்காறைகளை எடுத்துக்கொண்டான்.

Then Zebah and Zalmunna said, Rise thou, and fall upon us: for as the man is, so is his strength. And Gideon arose, and slew Zebah and Zalmunna, and took away the ornaments that were on their camels' necks.

அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேல் மனுஷர் கிதியோனை நோக்கி: நீர் எங்களை மீதியானியர் கைக்கு நீங்கலாக்கிவிட்டபடியினால் நீரும் உம்முடைய குமாரனும், உம்முடைய குமாரனின் குமாரனும், எங்களை ஆளக்கடவீர்கள் என்றார்கள்.

Then the men of Israel said unto Gideon, Rule thou over us, both thou, and thy son, and thy son's son also: for thou hast delivered us from the hand of Midian.

அதற்குக் கிதியோன்: நான் உங்களை ஆளமாட்டேன்; என் குமாரனும் உங்களை ஆளமாட்டான்; கர்த்தரே உங்களை ஆளுவாராக என்றான்.

And Gideon said unto them, I will not rule over you, neither shall my son rule over you: the LORD shall rule over you.

And Gideon said unto them, I would desire a request of you, that ye would give me every man the earrings of his prey. (For they had golden earrings, because they were Ishmaelites.)

And they answered, We will willingly give them. And they spread a garment, and did cast therein every man the earrings of his prey.

And the weight of the golden earrings that he requested was a thousand and seven hundred shekels of gold; beside ornaments, and collars, and purple raiment that was on the kings of Midian, and beside the chains that were about their camels' necks.

அதினால் கிதியோன் ஒரு ஏபோத்தை உண்டாக்கி, அதைத் தன் ஊரான ஒப்ராவிலே வைத்தான்; இஸ்ரவேலரெல்லாரும் அதைப் பின்பற்றிச் சோரம்போனார்கள்; அது கிதியோனுக்கும் அவன் வீட்டாருக்கும் கண்ணியாயிற்று.

And Gideon made an ephod thereof, and put it in his city, even in Ophrah: and all Israel went thither a whoring after it: which thing became a snare unto Gideon, and to his house.

இந்தப்பிரகாரம் மீதியானியர் திரும்ப தலையெடுக்கக்கூடாதபடிக்கு, இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரருக்கு முன்பாகத் தாழ்த்தப்பட்டார்கள்; தேசமானது கிதியோனின் நாட்களில் நாற்பது வருஷம் அமைதலாயிருந்தது.

Thus was Midian subdued before the children of Israel, so that they lifted up their heads no more. And the country was in quietness forty years in the days of Gideon.

யோவாசின் குமாரனாகிய யெருபாகால் போய், தன் வீட்டிலே வாசமாயிருந்தான்.

And Jerubbaal the son of Joash went and dwelt in his own house.

கிதியோனுக்கு அநேகம் ஸ்திரீகள் இருந்தார்கள்; அவனுடைய கர்ப்பப்பிறப்பான குமாரர் எழுபதுபேர்.

And Gideon had threescore and ten sons of his body begotten: for he had many wives.

சீகேமிலிருந்த அவனுடைய மறுமனையாட்டியும் அவனுக்கு ஒரு குமாரனைப் பெற்றாள்; அவனுக்கு அபிமெலேக்கு என்று பேரிட்டான்.

And his concubine that was in Shechem, she also bare him a son, whose name he called Abimelech.

பின்பு யோவாசின் குமாரனாகிய கிதியோன் நல்ல விருத்தாப்பியத்திலே மரித்து, ஒப்ராவிலே தன் தகப்பனாகிய யோவாஸ் என்னும் அபியேஸ்ரியனுடைய கல்லறையில் அடக்கம்பண்ணப்பட்டான்.

And Gideon the son of Joash died in a good old age, and was buried in the sepulchre of Joash his father, in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.

கிதியோன் மரித்தபின் இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் திரும்பவும் பாகால்களைப் பின்பற்றிச் சோரம்போய், பாகால்பேரீத்தைத் தங்களுக்கு தேவனாக வைத்துக்கொண்டார்கள்.

And it came to pass, as soon as Gideon was dead, that the children of Israel turned again, and went a whoring after Baalim, and made Baalberith their god.

இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் தங்களைச் சுற்றிலுமிருந்த தங்கள் எல்லாச் சத்துருக்களின் கையினின்றும் தங்களை இரட்சித்த தங்கள் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தரை நினையாமலும்,

And the children of Israel remembered not the LORD their God, who had delivered them out of the hands of all their enemies on every side:

கிதியோன் என்னும் யெருபாகால் இஸ்ரவேலுக்குச் செய்த சகல நன்மைக்குத்தக்க தயவை அவன் வீட்டாருக்குப் பாராட்டாமலும் போனார்கள்.

Neither shewed they kindness to the house of Jerubbaal, namely, Gideon, according to all the goodness which he had shewed unto Israel.

யெருபாகாலின் குமாரன் அபிமெலேக்கு சீகேமிலிருக்கிற தன் தாயின் சகோதரரிடத்திற்குப் போய், அவர்களையும் தன் தாயின் தகப்பனுடைய வம்சமான அனைவரையும் நோக்கி:

And Abimelech the son of Jerubbaal went to Shechem unto his mother's brethren, and communed with them, and with all the family of the house of his mother's father, saying,

யெருபாகாலின் குமாரர் எழுபதுபேராகிய எல்லாரும் உங்களை ஆளுவது உங்களுக்கு நல்லதோ, ஒருவன் மாத்திரம் உங்களை ஆளுவது உங்களுக்கு நல்லதோ என்று நீங்கள் சீகேமிலிருக்கிற சகல பெரிய மனுஷரின் காதுகளும் கேட்கப்பேசுங்கள்; நான் உங்கள் எலும்பும் உங்கள் மாம்சமுமானவன் என்று நினைத்துக் கொள்ளுங்கள் என்றான்.

Speak, I pray you, in the ears of all the men of Shechem, Whether is better for you, either that all the sons of Jerubbaal, which are threescore and ten persons, reign over you, or that one reign over you? remember also that I am your bone and your flesh.

அப்படியே அவன் தாயின் சகோதரர் சீகேமிலிருக்கிற சகல பெரிய மனுஷரின் காதுகளும் கேட்க இந்த வார்த்தைகளையெல்லாம் அவனுக்காகப் பேசினார்கள்; அப்பொழுது: அவன் நம்முடைய சகோதரன் என்று அவர்கள் சொன்னதினால், அவர்கள் இருதயம் அபிமெலேக்கைப் பின்பற்றச் சாய்ந்தது.

And his mother's brethren spake of him in the ears of all the men of Shechem all these words: and their hearts inclined to follow Abimelech; for they said, He is our brother.

அவர்கள் பாகால் பேரீத்தின் கோவிலிலிருந்து எழுபது வெள்ளிக்காசை எடுத்து அவனுக்குக் கொடுத்தார்கள்; அவைகளால் அபிமெலேக்கு வீணரும் போக்கிரிகளுமான மனுஷரைச் சேவகத்தில் வைத்தான்; அவர்கள் அவனைப் பின்பற்றினார்கள்.

And they gave him threescore and ten pieces of silver out of the house of Baalberith, wherewith Abimelech hired vain and light persons, which followed him.

And he went unto his father's house at Ophrah, and slew his brethren the sons of Jerubbaal, being threescore and ten persons, upon one stone: notwithstanding yet Jotham the youngest son of Jerubbaal was left; for he hid himself.

பின்பு சீகேமிலிருக்கிற சகல பெரிய மனுஷரும், மில்லோவின் குடும்பத்தாரனைவரும் கூடிக்கொண்டு போய், சீகேமிலிருக்கிற உயர்ந்த கர்வாலிமரத்தண்டையிலே அபிமெலேக்கை ராஜாவாக்கினார்கள்.

And all the men of Shechem gathered together, and all the house of Millo, and went, and made Abimelech king, by the plain of the pillar that was in Shechem.

And when they told it to Jotham, he went and stood in the top of mount Gerizim, and lifted up his voice, and cried, and said unto them, Hearken unto me, ye men of Shechem, that God may hearken unto you.

விருட்சங்கள் தங்களுக்கு ஒரு ராஜாவை அபிஷேகம்பண்ணும்படி போய், ஒலிவமரத்தைப் பார்த்து: நீ எங்களுக்கு ராஜாவாயிரு என்றது.

The trees went forth on a time to anoint a king over them; and they said unto the olive tree, Reign thou over us.

அதற்கு ஒலிவமரம்: தேவர்களும் மனுஷரும் புகழுகிற என்னிலுள்ள என்கொழுமையை நான் விட்டு, மரங்களை அரசாளப்போவேனோ என்றது.

But the olive tree said unto them, Should I leave my fatness, wherewith by me they honour God and man, and go to be promoted over the trees?

அப்பொழுது மரங்கள் அத்திமரத்தைப் பார்த்து: நீ வந்து, எங்களுக்கு ராஜாவாயிரு என்றது.

And the trees said to the fig tree, Come thou, and reign over us.

அதற்கு அத்திமரம்: நான் என் மதுரத்தையும் என் நற்கனியையும் விட்டு, மரங்களை அரசாளப்போவேனோ என்றது.

But the fig tree said unto them, Should I forsake my sweetness, and my good fruit, and go to be promoted over the trees?

அப்பொழுது மரங்கள் திராட்சச்செடியைப் பார்த்து: நீ வந்து, எங்களுக்கு ராஜாவாயிரு என்றது.

Then said the trees unto the vine, Come thou, and reign over us.

அதற்குத் திராட்சச்செடி: தேவர்களையும் மனுஷரையும் மகிழப்பண்ணும் என் ரசத்தை நான் விட்டு மரங்களை அரசாளப்போவேனோ என்றது.

And the vine said unto them, Should I leave my wine, which cheereth God and man, and go to be promoted over the trees?

அப்பொழுது மரங்களெல்லாம் முட்செடியைப் பார்த்து: நீ வந்து, எங்களுக்கு ராஜாவாயிரு என்றது.

Then said all the trees unto the bramble, Come thou, and reign over us.

அதற்கு முட்செடியானது மரங்களைப் பார்த்து: நீங்கள் என்னை உங்களுக்கு ராஜாவாக அபிஷேகம் பண்ணுகிறது மெய்யானால், என் நிழலிலே வந்தடையுங்கள்; இல்லாவிட்டால் முட்செடியிலிருந்து அக்கினி புறப்பட்டு லீபனோனின் கேதுரு மரங்களைப் பட்சிக்கக்கடவது என்றது.

And the bramble said unto the trees, If in truth ye anoint me king over you, then come and put your trust in my shadow: and if not, let fire come out of the bramble, and devour the cedars of Lebanon.

என் தகப்பன் உங்களுக்காக யுத்தம்பண்ணி, தன் ஜீவனை எண்ணாமற்போய், உங்களை மீதியானியரின் கையினின்று இரட்சித்தார்.

Now therefore, if ye have done truly and sincerely, in that ye have made Abimelech king, and if ye have dealt well with Jerubbaal and his house, and have done unto him according to the deserving of his hands;

நீங்களோ இன்று என் தகப்பனுடைய குடும்பத்துக்கு விரோதமாய் எழும்பி, அவருடைய குமாரரான எழுபதுபேரையும் ஒரே கல்லின்மேல் கொலைசெய்து, அவருடைய வேலைக்காரியின் மகனாகிய அபிமெலேக்கு உங்கள் சகோதரனானபடியினால், அவனைச் சீகேம் பட்டணத்தாருக்கு ராஜாவாக்கினீர்கள்.

(For my father fought for you, and adventured his life far, and delivered you out of the hand of Midian:

இப்போதும் நீங்கள் அவனை ராஜாவாக்கின செய்கை உண்மையும் உத்தமமுமான செய்கையாயிருக்குமானால்,

And ye are risen up against my father's house this day, and have slain his sons, threescore and ten persons, upon one stone, and have made Abimelech, the son of his maidservant, king over the men of Shechem, because he is your brother;)

If ye then have dealt truly and sincerely with Jerubbaal and with his house this day, then rejoice ye in Abimelech, and let him also rejoice in you:

But if not, let fire come out from Abimelech, and devour the men of Shechem, and the house of Millo; and let fire come out from the men of Shechem, and from the house of Millo, and devour Abimelech.

தன் சகோதரனாகிய அபிமெலேக்குக்குப் பயந்து, தப்பியோடி, பேயேருக்குப் போய், அங்கே குடியிருந்தான்.

And Jotham ran away, and fled, and went to Beer, and dwelt there, for fear of Abimelech his brother.

அபிமெலேக்கு இஸ்ரவேலை மூன்று வருஷம் அரசாண்டபின்பு,

When Abimelech had reigned three years over Israel,

அபிமெலேக்குக்கும் சீகேமின் பெரிய மனுஷருக்கும் நடுவே பொல்லாப்பு உண்டாக்கும் ஆவியை தேவன் வரப்பண்ணினார்.

Then God sent an evil spirit between Abimelech and the men of Shechem; and the men of Shechem dealt treacherously with Abimelech:

That the cruelty done to the threescore and ten sons of Jerubbaal might come, and their blood be laid upon Abimelech their brother, which slew them; and upon the men of Shechem, which aided him in the killing of his brethren.

சீகேமின் மனுஷர் மலைகளின் உச்சியில் அவனுக்குப் பதிவிருக்கிறவர்களை வைத்தார்கள்; அவர்கள் தங்கள் அருகே வழிநடந்துபோகிற யாவரையும் கொள்ளையிட்டார்கள்; அது அபிமெலேக்குக்கு அறிவிக்கப்பட்டது.

And the men of Shechem set liers in wait for him in the top of the mountains, and they robbed all that came along that way by them: and it was told Abimelech.

ஏபேதின் குமாரனாகிய காகால் தன் சகோதரரோடே சீகேமுக்குள் போனான்; சீகேமின் பெரிய மனுஷர் அவனை நம்பி,

And Gaal the son of Ebed came with his brethren, and went over to Shechem: and the men of Shechem put their confidence in him.

வெளியே புறப்பட்டு, தங்கள் திராட்சத்தோட்டங்களின் பழங்களை அறுத்து, ஆலையாட்டி, ஆடிப்பாடி, தங்கள் தேவனின் வீட்டிற்குள் போய், புசித்துக்குடித்து, அபிமெலேக்கை சபித்தார்கள்.

And they went out into the fields, and gathered their vineyards, and trode the grapes, and made merry, and went into the house of their god, and did eat and drink, and cursed Abimelech.

அப்பொழுது ஏபேதின் குமாரனாகிய காகால்: அபிமெலேக்கு யார்? சீகேம் யார்? நாம் அவனைச் சேவிக்கவேண்டியதென்ன? அவன் யெருபாகாலின் மகன் அல்லவா? சேபூல் அவனுடைய காரியக்காரன் அல்லவா? சீகேமின் தகப்பனாகிய ஏமோரின் மனுஷரையே சேவியுங்கள்; அவனை நாங்கள் சேவிப்பானேன்?

And Gaal the son of Ebed said, Who is Abimelech, and who is Shechem, that we should serve him? is not he the son of Jerubbaal? and Zebul his officer? serve the men of Hamor the father of Shechem: for why should we serve him?

இந்த ஜனங்கள்மாத்திரம் என் கைக்குள் இருக்கட்டும்; நான் அபிமெலேக்கைத் துரத்திவிடுவேன் என்றான். உன் சேனையைப் பெருகப்பண்ணிப் புறப்பட்டுவா என்று, அவன் அபிமெலேக்குக்குச் சொல்லியனுப்பினான்.

And would to God this people were under my hand! then would I remove Abimelech. And he said to Abimelech, Increase thine army, and come out.

பட்டணத்தின் அதிகாரியாகிய சேபூல் ஏபேதின் குமாரனாகிய காகாலின் வார்த்தைகளைக் கேட்டபோது, கோபமூண்டு,

And when Zebul the ruler of the city heard the words of Gaal the son of Ebed, his anger was kindled.

இரகசியமாய் அபிமெலேக்கினிடத்துக்கு ஆட்களை அனுப்பி: இதோ, ஏபேதின் குமாரனாகிய காகாலும் அவனுடைய சகோதரரும் சீகேமுக்கு வந்திருக்கிறார்கள்; பட்டணத்தை உமக்கு விரோதமாக எழுப்புகிறார்கள்.

And he sent messengers unto Abimelech privily, saying, Behold, Gaal the son of Ebed and his brethren be come to Shechem; and, behold, they fortify the city against thee.

ஆகையால் நீர் உம்மோடிருக்கும் ஜனங்களோடேகூட இரவில் எழுந்து வந்து வெளியிலே பதிவிருந்து,

Now therefore up by night, thou and the people that is with thee, and lie in wait in the field:

And it shall be, that in the morning, as soon as the sun is up, thou shalt rise early, and set upon the city: and, behold, when he and the people that is with him come out against thee, then mayest thou do to them as thou shalt find occasion.

அப்படியே அபிமெலேக்கும், அவனோடிருந்த சகல ஜனங்களும், இரவில் எழுந்துபோய், சீகேமுக்கு விரோதமாக நாலு படையாகப் பதிவிருந்தார்கள்.

And Abimelech rose up, and all the people that were with him, by night, and they laid wait against Shechem in four companies.

ஏபேதின் குமாரன் காகால் புறப்பட்டு, பட்டணத்தின் ஒலிமுகவாசலில் நின்றான்; அப்பொழுது பதிவிருந்த அபிமெலேக்கு தன்னோடிருக்கிற ஜனங்களோடேகூட எழும்பி வந்தான்.

And Gaal the son of Ebed went out, and stood in the entering of the gate of the city: and Abimelech rose up, and the people that were with him, from lying in wait.

காகால் அந்த ஜனங்களைக் கண்டு: இதோ, மலைகளின் உச்சிகளிலிருந்து ஜனங்கள் இறங்கி வருகிறார்கள் என்று சேபூலோடே சொன்னான். அதற்குச் சேபூல்: நீ மலைகளின் நிழலைக் கண்டு, மனுஷர் என்று நினைக்கிறாய் என்றான்.

And when Gaal saw the people, he said to Zebul, Behold, there come people down from the top of the mountains. And Zebul said unto him, Thou seest the shadow of the mountains as if they were men.

காகாலோ திரும்பவும்: இதோ, ஜனங்கள் தேசத்தின் மேட்டிலிருந்து இறங்கிவந்து, ஒரு படை மெயொனெனீமின் கர்வாலிமரத்தின் வழியாய் வருகிறது என்றான்.

And Gaal spake again and said, See there come people down by the middle of the land, and another company come along by the plain of Meonenim.

Then said Zebul unto him, Where is now thy mouth, wherewith thou saidst, Who is Abimelech, that we should serve him? is not this the people that thou hast despised? go out, I pray now, and fight with them.

அப்பொழுது காகால் சீகேமின் மனுஷருக்கு முன்பாகப் புறப்பட்டுப்போய், அபிமெலேக்கோடே யுத்தம்பண்ணினான்.

And Gaal went out before the men of Shechem, and fought with Abimelech.

அபிமெலேக்கு அவனைத் துரத்த, அவன் அவனுக்கு முன்பாக ஓடினான்; பட்டணவாசல் மட்டும் அநேகர் வெட்டுண்டு விழுந்தார்கள்.

And Abimelech chased him, and he fled before him, and many were overthrown and wounded, even unto the entering of the gate.

அபிமெலேக்கு அருமாவில் இருந்து விட்டான்; சேபூல் காகாலையும் அவன் சகோதரரையும் சீகேமிலே குடியிராதபடிக்குத் துரத்திவிட்டான்.

And Abimelech dwelt at Arumah: and Zebul thrust out Gaal and his brethren, that they should not dwell in Shechem.

மறுநாளிலே ஜனங்கள் வெளியிலே வயலுக்குப் போனார்கள்; அது அபிமெலேக்குக்கு அறிவிக்கப்பட்டபோது,

And it came to pass on the morrow, that the people went out into the field; and they told Abimelech.

அவன் ஜனங்களைக் கூட்டிக்கொண்டு, அவர்களை மூன்று படையாக வகுத்து, வெளியிலே பதிவிருந்து, அந்த ஜனங்கள் பட்டணத்திலிருந்து புறப்பட்டு வருகிறதைக் கண்டு, அவர்கள்மேல் எழும்பி, அவர்களை வெட்டினான்.

And he took the people, and divided them into three companies, and laid wait in the field, and looked, and, behold, the people were come forth out of the city; and he rose up against them, and smote them.

அபிமெலேக்கும் அவனோடிருந்த படையும் பாய்ந்துவந்து, பட்டணத்தின் ஒலிமுகவாசலில் நின்றார்கள்; மற்ற இரண்டு படைகளோ வெளியிலிருக்கிற யாவர்மேலும் விழுந்து, அவர்களை வெட்டினார்கள்.

And Abimelech, and the company that was with him, rushed forward, and stood in the entering of the gate of the city: and the two other companies ran upon all the people that were in the fields, and slew them.

அபிமெலேக்கு அந்நாள் முழுதும் பட்டணத்தின்மேல் யுத்தம்பண்ணி, பட்டணத்தைப் பிடித்து, அதிலிருந்த ஜனங்களைக் கொன்று, பட்டணத்தை இடித்துவிட்டு, அதில் உப்பு விதைத்தான்.

And Abimelech fought against the city all that day; and he took the city, and slew the people that was therein, and beat down the city, and sowed it with salt.

அதைச் சீகேம் துருக்கத்து மனுஷர் எல்லாரும் கேள்விப்பட்டபோது, அவர்கள் பேரீத் தேவனுடைய கோவில் அரணுக்குள் பிரவேசித்தார்கள்.

And when all the men of the tower of Shechem heard that, they entered into an hold of the house of the god Berith.

And it was told Abimelech, that all the men of the tower of Shechem were gathered together.

அபிமெலேக்கு தன்னோடிருந்த எல்லா ஜனங்களோடுங்கூடச் சல்மோன் மலையில் ஏறி, தன் கையிலே கோடரியைப் பிடித்து, ஒரு மரத்தின் கொம்பை வெட்டி, அதை எடுத்து, தன் தோளின்மேல் போட்டுக்கொண்டு, தன்னோடிருந்த ஜனங்களை நோக்கி: நான் என்ன செய்கிறேன் என்று பார்க்கிறீர்களே, நீங்களும் தீவிரமாய் என்னைப்போலச் செய்யுங்கள் என்றான்.

And Abimelech gat him up to mount Zalmon, he and all the people that were with him; and Abimelech took an axe in his hand, and cut down a bough from the trees, and took it, and laid it on his shoulder, and said unto the people that were with him, What ye have seen me do, make haste, and do as I have done.

அப்படியே சகல ஜனங்களும் அவரவர் ஒவ்வொரு கொம்பை வெட்டி, அபிமெலேக்குக்குப் பின்சென்று, அவைகளை அந்த அரணுக்கு அருகே போட்டு, அக்கினி கொளுத்தி அந்த அரணைச் சுட்டுப்போட்டார்கள்; அதினால் புருஷரும் ஸ்திரீகளும் ஏறக்குறைய ஆயிரம்பேராகிய சீகேம் துருக்கத்து மனுஷர் எல்லாரும் செத்தார்கள்.

And all the people likewise cut down every man his bough, and followed Abimelech, and put them to the hold, and set the hold on fire upon them; so that all the men of the tower of Shechem died also, about a thousand men and women.

பின்பு அபிமெலேக்கு தேபேசுக்குப் போய், அதற்கு விரோதமாய்ப் பாளயமிறங்கி, அதைப் பிடித்தான்.

Then went Abimelech to Thebez, and encamped against Thebez, and took it.

அந்தப் பட்டணத்தின் நடுவே பலத்த துருக்கம் இருந்தது; அங்கே சகல புருஷரும் ஸ்திரீகளும் பட்டணத்து மனுஷர் அனைவரும் ஓடிப் புகுந்து, கதவைப் பூட்டிக்கொண்டு, துருக்கத்தின்மேல் ஏறினார்கள்.

But there was a strong tower within the city, and thither fled all the men and women, and all they of the city, and shut it to them, and gat them up to the top of the tower.

அபிமெலேக்கு அந்தத் துருக்கம் மட்டும் வந்து, அதின்மேல் யுத்தம்பண்ணி, துருக்கத்தின் கதவைச் சுட்டெரித்துப் போடும்படிக்கு, அதின் கிட்டச் சேர்ந்தான்.

And Abimelech came unto the tower, and fought against it, and went hard unto the door of the tower to burn it with fire.

அப்பொழுது ஒரு ஸ்திரீ ஒரு ஏந்திரக்கல்லின் துண்டை அபிமெலேக்குடைய தலையின்மேல் போட்டாள்; அது அவன் மண்டையை உடைத்தது.

And a certain woman cast a piece of a millstone upon Abimelech's head, and all to brake his skull.

Then he called hastily unto the young man his armourbearer, and said unto him, Draw thy sword, and slay me, that men say not of me, A woman slew him. And his young man thrust him through, and he died.

அபிமெலேக்குச் செத்துப்போனதை இஸ்ரவேல் மனுஷர் கண்டபோது, அவர்கள் தங்கள்தங்கள் இடங்களுக்குப் போய் விட்டார்கள்.

And when the men of Israel saw that Abimelech was dead, they departed every man unto his place.

இப்படியே அபிமெலேக்கு தன்னுடைய எழுபது சகோதரரைக் கொலை செய்ததினால், தன் தகப்பனுக்குச் செய்த பொல்லாப்பை தேவன் அவன்மேல் திரும்பும்படி செய்தார்.

Thus God rendered the wickedness of Abimelech, which he did unto his father, in slaying his seventy brethren:

சீகேம் மனுஷர் செய்த எல்லாப் பொல்லாப்பையும் தேவன் அவர்கள் தலையின்மேல் திரும்பும்படி செய்தார்; யெருபாகாலின் குமாரன் யோதாமின் சாபம் அவர்களுக்குப் பலித்தது.

And all the evil of the men of Shechem did God render upon their heads: and upon them came the curse of Jotham the son of Jerubbaal.

After these things Paul departed from Athens, and came to Corinth;

And found a certain Jew named Aquila, born in Pontus, lately come from Italy, with his wife Priscilla; (because that Claudius had commanded all Jews to depart from Rome:) and came unto them.

அவர்கள் கூடாரம்பண்ணுகிற தொழிலாளிகளாயிருந்தார்கள்; தானும் அந்தத் தொழில் செய்கிறவனானபடியினாலே அவர்களிடத்தில் தங்கி, வேலைசெய்துகொண்டுவந்தான்.

And because he was of the same craft, he abode with them, and wrought: for by their occupation they were tentmakers.

ஓய்வு நாள்தோறும் இவன் ஜெப ஆலயத்திலே சம்பாஷணைபண்ணி, யூதருக்கும் கிரேக்கருக்கும் புத்தி சொன்னான்.

And he reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks.

மக்கெதோனியாவிலிருந்து சீலாவும் தீமோத்தேயும் வந்தபோது, பவுல் ஆவியில் வைராக்கியங்கொண்டு, இயேசுவே கிறிஸ்து என்று யூதருக்குத் திருஷ்டாந்தப்படுத்தினான்.

And when Silas and Timotheus were come from Macedonia, Paul was pressed in the spirit, and testified to the Jews that Jesus was Christ.

And when they opposed themselves, and blasphemed, he shook his raiment, and said unto them, Your blood be upon your own heads; I am clean: from henceforth I will go unto the Gentiles.

And he departed thence, and entered into a certain man's house, named Justus, one that worshipped God, whose house joined hard to the synagogue.

ஜெப ஆலயத்தலைவனாகிய கிறிஸ்பு என்பவன் தன் வீட்டார் அனைவரோடும் கர்த்தரிடத்தில் விசுவாசமுள்ளவனானான். கொரிந்தியரில் அநேகரும் சுவிசேஷத்தைக் கேட்டு, விசுவாசித்து, ஞானஸ்நானம் பெற்றார்கள்.

And Crispus, the chief ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his house; and many of the Corinthians hearing believed, and were baptized.

இராத்திரியிலே கர்த்தர் பவுலுக்குத் தரிசனமாகி: நீ பயப்படாமல் பேசு, மவுனமாயிராதே;

Then spake the Lord to Paul in the night by a vision, Be not afraid, but speak, and hold not thy peace:

நான் உன்னுடனேகூட இருக்கிறேன், உனக்குத் தீங்குசெய்யும்படி ஒருவனும் உன்மேல் கைபோடுவதில்லை; இந்தப் பட்டணத்தில் எனக்கு அநேக ஜனங்கள் உண்டு என்றார்.

For I am with thee, and no man shall set on thee to hurt thee: for I have much people in this city.

அவன் ஒரு வருஷமும் ஆறு மாதமும் அங்கே தங்கி, தேவவசனத்தை அவர்களுக்குள்ளே உபதேசம்பண்ணிக்கொண்டுவந்தான்.

And he continued there a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them.

And when Gallio was the deputy of Achaia, the Jews made insurrection with one accord against Paul, and brought him to the judgment seat,

இவன் வேதப்பிரமாணத்துக்கு விகற்பமாய்த் தேவனைச் சேவிக்கும்படி மனுஷருக்குப் போதிக்கிறான் என்றார்கள்.

Saying, This fellow persuadeth men to worship God contrary to the law.

And when Paul was now about to open his mouth, Gallio said unto the Jews, If it were a matter of wrong or wicked lewdness, O ye Jews, reason would that I should bear with you:

And he drave them from the judgment seat.

Then all the Greeks took Sosthenes, the chief ruler of the synagogue, and beat him before the judgment seat. And Gallio cared for none of those things.

And Paul after this tarried there yet a good while, and then took his leave of the brethren, and sailed thence into Syria, and with him Priscilla and Aquila; having shorn his head in Cenchrea: for he had a vow.

When they desired him to tarry longer time with them, he consented not;

And when he had landed at Caesarea, and gone up, and saluted the church, he went down to Antioch.

அங்கே சிலகாலம் சஞ்சரித்தபின்பு, புறப்பட்டு, கிரமமாய்க் கலாத்தியா நாட்டிலேயும் பிரிகியா நாட்டிலேயும் சுற்றித்திரிந்து, சீஷரெல்லாரையும் திடப்படுத்தினான்.

And after he had spent some time there, he departed, and went over all the country of Galatia and Phrygia in order, strengthening all the disciples.

அப்பொழுது அலெக்சந்திரியா பட்டணத்தில் பிறந்தவனும் சாதுரியவானும் வேதாகமங்களில் வல்லவனுமான அப்பொல்லோ என்னும் பேர்கொண்ட ஒரு யூதன் எபேசு பட்டணத்துக்கு வந்தான்.

And a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man, and mighty in the scriptures, came to Ephesus.

அவன் கர்த்தருடைய மார்க்கத்திலே உபதேசிக்கப்பட்டு, யோவான் கொடுத்த ஸ்நானத்தைமாத்திரம் அறிந்தவனாயிருந்து, ஆவியில் அனலுள்ளவனாய்க் கர்த்தருக்கு அடுத்தவைகளைத் திட்டமாய்ப் போதகம் பண்ணிக்கொண்டுவந்தான்.

This man was instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in the spirit, he spake and taught diligently the things of the Lord, knowing only the baptism of John.

அவன் ஜெப ஆலயத்தில் தைரியமாய்ப் பேசத்தொடங்கினபோது, ஆக்கில்லாவும், பிரிஸ்கில்லாளும் அவன் பேசுகிறதைக் கேட்டு, அவனைச் சேர்த்துக்கொண்டு, தேவனுடைய மார்க்கத்தை அதிக திட்டமாய் அவனுக்கு விவரித்துக் காண்பித்தார்கள்.

And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue: whom when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly.

And when he was disposed to pass into Achaia, the brethren wrote, exhorting the disciples to receive him: who, when he was come, helped them much which had believed through grace:

அவன் அங்கே வந்தபின்பு வெளியரங்கமாக யூதர்களுடனே பலமாய்த் தர்க்கம்பண்ணி, இயேசுவே கிறிஸ்து என்று வேதவாக்கியங்களைக் கொண்டு திருஷ்டாந்தப்படுத்தினபடியால், கிருபையினாலே விசுவாசிகளானவர்களுக்கு மிகவும் உதவியாயிருந்தான்.

For he mightily convinced the Jews, and that publickly, shewing by the scriptures that Jesus was Christ.
