நியாயாதிபதிகள் அத்தியாயம் 6

பின்னும் இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் கர்த்தரின் பார்வைக்குப் பொல்லாப்பானதைச் செய்தார்கள்; அப்பொழுது கர்த்தர் அவர்களை ஏழு வருஷம் மீதியானியரின் கையில் ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தார்.

And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD: and the LORD delivered them into the hand of Midian seven years.

மீதியானியரின் கை இஸ்ரவேலின்மேல் பலத்துக்கொண்டபடியால், இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் மீதியானியர் நிமித்தம் தங்களுக்கு மலைகளிலுள்ள கெபிகளையும் குகைகளையும் அரணான ஸ்தலங்களையும் அடைக்கலங்களாக்கிக்கொண்டார்கள்.

And the hand of Midian prevailed against Israel: and because of the Midianites the children of Israel made them the dens which are in the mountains, and caves, and strong holds.

இஸ்ரவேலர் விதை விதைத்திருக்கும்போது, மீதியானியரும் அமலேக்கியரும் கிழக்கத்திப் புத்திரரும் அவர்களுக்கு விரோதமாய் எழும்பி வந்து;

And so it was, when Israel had sown, that the Midianites came up, and the Amalekites, and the children of the east, even they came up against them;

அவர்களுக்கு எதிரே பாளயமிறங்கி, காசாவின் எல்லைமட்டும் நிலத்தின் விளைச்சலைக் கெடுத்து, இஸ்ரவேலிலே ஆகாரத்தையாகிலும், ஆடுமாடுகள் கழுதைகளையாகிலும் வைக்காதே போவார்கள்.

And they encamped against them, and destroyed the increase of the earth, till thou come unto Gaza, and left no sustenance for Israel, neither sheep, nor ox, nor ass.

அவர்கள் தங்கள் மிருகஜீவன்களோடும், தங்கள் கூடாரங்களோடும், வெட்டுக்கிளிகளைப்போல் திரளாய் வருவார்கள்; அவர்களும் அவர்கள் ஒட்டகங்களும் எண்ணிமுடியாததாயிருக்கும்; இந்தப்பிரகாரமாக தேசத்தைக் கெடுத்துவிட அதிலே வருவார்கள்.

For they came up with their cattle and their tents, and they came as grasshoppers for multitude; for both they and their camels were without number: and they entered into the land to destroy it.

இப்படி மீதியானியராலே இஸ்ரவேலர் மிகவும் சிறுமைப்பட்டார்கள்; அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் கர்த்தரை நோக்கி முறையிட்டார்கள்.

And Israel was greatly impoverished because of the Midianites; and the children of Israel cried unto the LORD.

இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் மீதியானியர் நிமித்தம் கர்த்தரை நோக்கி முறையிட்டபோது,

And it came to pass, when the children of Israel cried unto the LORD because of the Midianites,

கர்த்தர் ஒரு தீர்க்கதரிசியை அவர்களிடத்திற்கு அனுப்பினார்; அவன் அவர்களை நோக்கி: இஸ்ரவேலின் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் உரைக்கிறது என்னவென்றால்: நான் உங்களை எகிப்திலிருந்து வரவும், அடிமைத்தன வீட்டிலிருந்து புறப்படவும் செய்து,

That the LORD sent a prophet unto the children of Israel, which said unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I brought you up from Egypt, and brought you forth out of the house of bondage;

எகிப்தியர் கையினின்றும், உங்களை ஒடுக்கின யாவருடைய கையினின்றும் உங்களை இரட்சித்து, அவர்களை உங்களுக்கு முன்பாகத் துரத்தி, அவர்கள் தேசத்தை உங்களுக்குக் கொடுத்து,

And I delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all that oppressed you, and drave them out from before you, and gave you their land;

நான் உங்கள் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் என்றும், நீங்கள் குடியிருக்கும் அவர்கள் தேசத்திலுள்ள எமோரியருடைய தேவர்களுக்குப் பயப்படாதிருங்கள் என்றும், உங்களுக்குச் சொன்னேன்; நீங்களோ என் சொல்லைக் கேளாதேபோனீர்கள் என்கிறார் என்று சொன்னான்.

And I said unto you, I am the LORD your God; fear not the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but ye have not obeyed my voice.

அதற்குப்பின்பு கர்த்தருடைய தூதனானவர் வந்து, அபியேஸ்ரியனான யோவாசின் ஊராகிய ஒப்ராவிலிருக்கும் ஒரு கர்வாலிமரத்தின்கீழ் உட்கார்ந்தார்; அப்பொழுது அவனுடைய குமாரன் கிதியோன் கோதுமையை மீதியானியரின் கைக்குத் தப்புவிக்கிறதற்காக, ஆலைக்குச் சமீபமாய் அதைப் போரடித்தான்.

And there came an angel of the LORD, and sat under an oak which was in Ophrah, that pertained unto Joash the Abiezrite: and his son Gideon threshed wheat by the winepress, to hide it from the Midianites.

கர்த்தருடைய தூதனானவர் அவனுக்குத் தரிசனமாகி: பராக்கிரமசாலியே கர்த்தர் உன்னோடே இருக்கிறார் என்றார்.

And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him, and said unto him, The LORD is with thee, thou mighty man of valour.

அப்பொழுது கிதியோன் அவரை நோக்கி: ஆ என் ஆண்டவனே, கர்த்தர் எங்களோடே இருந்தால், இவையெல்லாம் எங்களுக்கு நேரிடுவானேன்? கர்த்தர் எங்களை எகிப்திலிருந்து கொண்டுவரவில்லையா என்று எங்கள் பிதாக்கள் எங்களுக்கு விவரித்துச்சொன்ன அவருடைய அற்புதங்களெல்லாம் எங்கே? இப்பொழுது கர்த்தர் எங்களைக் கைவிட்டு, மீதியானியர் கையில் எங்களை ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தாரே என்றான்.

And Gideon said unto him, Oh my Lord, if the LORD be with us, why then is all this befallen us? and where be all his miracles which our fathers told us of, saying, Did not the LORD bring us up from Egypt? but now the LORD hath forsaken us, and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites.

அப்பொழுது கர்த்தர் அவனை நோக்கிப் பார்த்து: உனக்கு இருக்கிற இந்தப் பலத்தோடே போ; நீ இஸ்ரவேலை மீதியானியரின் கைக்கு நீங்கலாக்கி இரட்சிப்பாய்; உன்னை அனுப்புகிறவர் நான் அல்லவா என்றார்.

And the LORD looked upon him, and said, Go in this thy might, and thou shalt save Israel from the hand of the Midianites: have not I sent thee?

அதற்கு அவன்: ஆ என் ஆண்டவரே, நான் இஸ்ரவேலை எதினாலே இரட்சிப்பேன்; இதோ, மனாசேயில் என் குடும்பம் மிகவும் எளியது; என் தகப்பன் வீட்டில் நான் எல்லாரிலும் சிறியவன் என்றான்.

And he said unto him, Oh my Lord, wherewith shall I save Israel? behold, my family is poor in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father's house.

அதற்குக் கர்த்தர்: நான் உன்னோடேகூட இருப்பேன்; ஒரே மனுஷனை முறிய அடிப்பதுபோல நீ மீதியானியரை முறிய அடிப்பாய் என்றார்.

And the LORD said unto him, Surely I will be with thee, and thou shalt smite the Midianites as one man.

அப்பொழுது அவன்: உம்முடைய கண்களில் இப்பொழுதும் எனக்குத் தயை கிடைத்ததானால் என்னோடே பேசுகிறவர் தேவரீர்தான் என்று எனக்கு ஒரு அடையாளத்தைக் காட்டவேண்டும்.

And he said unto him, If now I have found grace in thy sight, then shew me a sign that thou talkest with me.

நான் உம்மிடத்திற்கு என் காணிக்கையைக் கொண்டுவந்து, உமக்கு முன்பாக வைக்குமளவும், இவ்விடம் விட்டுப்போகாதிருப்பீராக என்றான்; அதற்கு அவர்: நீ திரும்பிவருமட்டும் நான் இருப்பேன் என்றார்.

Depart not hence, I pray thee, until I come unto thee, and bring forth my present, and set it before thee. And he said, I will tarry until thou come again.

உடனே கிதியோன் உள்ளே போய், ஒரு வெள்ளாட்டுக்குட்டியையும் ஒரு மரக்கால் மாவிலே புளிப்பில்லாத அப்பங்களையும் ஆயத்தப்படுத்தி, இறைச்சியை ஒரு கூடையில் வைத்து, ஆணத்தை ஒரு கிண்ணத்தில் வார்த்து, அதை வெளியே கர்வாலி மரத்தின்கீழிருக்கிற அவரிடத்தில் கொண்டுவந்து வைத்தான்.

And Gideon went in, and made ready a kid, and unleavened cakes of an ephah of flour: the flesh he put in a basket, and he put the broth in a pot, and brought it out unto him under the oak, and presented it.

அப்பொழுது தேவனுடைய தூதனானவர் அவனை நோக்கி: நீ இறைச்சியையும் புளிப்பில்லாத அப்பங்களையும் எடுத்து, இந்தக் கற்பாறையின்மேல் வைத்து ஆணத்தை ஊற்று என்றார்; அவன் அப்படியே செய்தான்.

And the angel of God said unto him, Take the flesh and the unleavened cakes, and lay them upon this rock, and pour out the broth. And he did so.

அப்பொழுது கர்த்தருடைய தூதன் தமது கையிலிருந்த கோலின் நுனியை நீட்டி, இறைச்சியையும் புளிப்பில்லாத அப்பங்களையும் தொட்டார்; அப்பொழுது அக்கினி கற்பாறையிலிருந்து எழும்பி, இறைச்சியையும் புளிப்பில்லாத அப்பங்களையும் பட்சித்தது; கர்த்தரின் தூதனோவென்றால். அவன் கண்களுக்கு மறைந்துபோனார்.

Then the angel of the LORD put forth the end of the staff that was in his hand, and touched the flesh and the unleavened cakes; and there rose up fire out of the rock, and consumed the flesh and the unleavened cakes. Then the angel of the LORD departed out of his sight.

அப்பொழுது கிதியோன், அவர் கர்த்தருடைய தூதன் என்று கண்டு: ஐயோ, கர்த்தரான ஆண்டவரே, நான் கர்த்தருடைய தூதனை முகமுகமாய்க் கண்டேனே என்றான்.

And when Gideon perceived that he was an angel of the LORD, Gideon said, Alas, O Lord GOD! for because I have seen an angel of the LORD face to face.

அதற்குக் கர்த்தர்: உனக்குச் சமாதானம்; பயப்படாதே, நீ சாவதில்லை என்று சொன்னார்.

And the LORD said unto him, Peace be unto thee; fear not: thou shalt not die.

அங்கே கிதியோன் கர்த்தருக்கு ஒரு பலிபீடத்தைக் கட்டி, அதற்கு யெகோவா ஷாலோம் என்று பேரிட்டான்; அது இந்நாள்வரைக்கும் அபியேஸ்ரியரின் ஊராகிய ஒப்ராவில் இருக்கிறது.

Then Gideon built an altar there unto the LORD, and called it Jehovahshalom: unto this day it is yet in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.

அன்று ராத்திரியிலே கர்த்தர் அவனை நோக்கி: நீ உன் தகப்பனுக்கு இருக்கிற காளைகளில் ஏழு வயதான இரண்டாம் காளையைக் கொண்டுபோய், உன் தகப்பனுக்கு இருக்கிற பாகாலின் பலிபீடத்தைத் தகர்த்து, அதின் அருகேயிருக்கிற தோப்பை வெட்டிப்போட்டு,

And it came to pass the same night, that the LORD said unto him, Take thy father's young bullock, even the second bullock of seven years old, and throw down the altar of Baal that thy father hath, and cut down the grove that is by it:

இந்தக் கற்பாறை உச்சியிலே பாங்கான ஒரு இடத்தில் உன் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தருக்கு ஒரு பலிபீடத்தைக் கட்டி, அந்த இரண்டாம் காளையைக் கொண்டு வந்து, அதை நீ வெட்டிப்போட்ட தோப்பினுடைய கட்டை விறகுகளின் மேல் சர்வாங்கதகனமாகப் பலியிடக்கடவாய் என்றார்.

And build an altar unto the LORD thy God upon the top of this rock, in the ordered place, and take the second bullock, and offer a burnt sacrifice with the wood of the grove which thou shalt cut down.

அப்பொழுது கிதியோன், தன் வேலையாட்களில் பத்துப்பேரைச் சேர்த்து, கர்த்தர் தனக்குச் சொன்னபடியே செய்தான்; அவன் தன் தகப்பன் குடும்பத்தாருக்கும் அந்த ஊர் மனுஷருக்கும் பயப்பட்டபடியினாலே, அதைப் பகலிலே செய்யாமல், இரவிலே செய்தான்.

Then Gideon took ten men of his servants, and did as the LORD had said unto him: and so it was, because he feared his father's household, and the men of the city, that he could not do it by day, that he did it by night.

அந்த ஊர் மனுஷர் காலமே எழுந்திருந்தபோது, இதோ, பாகாலின் பலிபீடம் தகர்க்கப்பட்டதும், அதின் அருகேயிருந்த தோப்பு வெட்டிப்போடப்பட்டதும், கட்டப்பட்டிருந்த பலிபீடத்தின் மேல் அந்த இரண்டாம் காளை பலியிடப்பட்டதுமாயிருக்க அவர்கள் கண்டு;

And when the men of the city arose early in the morning, behold, the altar of Baal was cast down, and the grove was cut down that was by it, and the second bullock was offered upon the altar that was built.

ஒருவரையொருவர் நோக்கி: இந்தக் காரியத்தைச் செய்தவன் யார் என்றார்கள்; கேட்டு விசாரிக்கிறபோது, யோவாசின் மகன் கிதியோன் இதைச் செய்தான் என்றார்கள்.

And they said one to another, Who hath done this thing? And when they enquired and asked, they said, Gideon the son of Joash hath done this thing.

அப்பொழுது ஊரார் யோவாசை நோக்கி: உன் மகனை வெளியே கொண்டுவா; அவன் பாகாலின் பலிபீடத்தைத் தகர்த்து, அதின் அருகேயிருந்த தோப்பை வெட்டிப்போட்டான், அவன் சாகவேண்டும் என்றார்கள்.

Then the men of the city said unto Joash, Bring out thy son, that he may die: because he hath cast down the altar of Baal, and because he hath cut down the grove that was by it.

யோவாஸ் தனக்கு விரோதமாக நிற்கிற அனைவரையும் பார்த்து: நீங்களா பாகாலுக்காக வழக்காடுவீர்கள்? நீங்களா அதை இரட்சிப்பீர்கள்? அதற்காக வழக்காடுகிறவன் இன்று காலையிலே தானே சாகக்கடவன்; அது தேவனானால் தன் பலிபீடத்தைத் தகர்த்ததினிமித்தம், அதுதானே தனக்காக வழக்காடட்டும் என்றான்.

And Joash said unto all that stood against him, Will ye plead for Baal? will ye save him? he that will plead for him, let him be put to death whilst it is yet morning: if he be a god, let him plead for himself, because one hath cast down his altar.

தன் பலிபீடத்தைத் தகர்த்ததினிமித்தம் பாகால் அவனோடே வழக்காடட்டும் என்று சொல்லி, அந்நாளிலே அவனுக்கு யெருபாகால் என்று பேரிடப்பட்டது.

Therefore on that day he called him Jerubbaal, saying, Let Baal plead against him, because he hath thrown down his altar.

மீதியானியரும் அமலேக்கியரும் கிழக்கத்திப் புத்திரர் யாவரும் ஏகமாய்க்கூடி, ஆற்றைக் கடந்துவந்து, யெஸ்ரயேல் பள்ளத்தாக்கிலே பாளயமிறங்கினார்கள்.

Then all the Midianites and the Amalekites and the children of the east were gathered together, and went over, and pitched in the valley of Jezreel.

அப்பொழுது கர்த்தருடைய ஆவியானவர் கிதியோன்மேல் இறங்கினார்; அவன் எக்காளம் ஊதி, அபியேஸ்ரியரைக் கூப்பிட்டு, தனக்குப் பின்செல்லும்படி செய்து,

But the Spirit of the LORD came upon Gideon, and he blew a trumpet; and Abiezer was gathered after him.

மனாசே நாடெங்கும் ஸ்தானாபதிகளை அனுப்பி, அவர்களையும் கூப்பிட்டு, தனக்குப் பின்செல்லும்படி செய்து, ஆசேர், செபுலோன், நப்தலி நாடுகளிலும் ஆட்களை அனுப்பினான்; அவர்களும் அவனுக்கு எதிர்கொண்டு வந்தார்கள்.

And he sent messengers throughout all Manasseh; who also was gathered after him: and he sent messengers unto Asher, and unto Zebulun, and unto Naphtali; and they came up to meet them.

அப்பொழுது கிதியோன் தேவனை நோக்கி: தேவரீர் சொன்னபடி என் கையினாலே இஸ்ரவேலை இரட்சிக்கவேண்டுமானால்,

And Gideon said unto God, If thou wilt save Israel by mine hand, as thou hast said,

இதோ, நான் மயிருள்ள ஒரு தோலைக் களத்திலே போடுகிறேன்; பனி தோலின் மேல் மாத்திரம் பெய்து, பூமியெல்லாம் காய்ந்திருந்தால், அப்பொழுது தேவரீர் சொன்னபடி இஸ்ரவேலை என்கையினால் இரட்சிப்பீர் என்று அதினாலே அறிவேன் என்றான்.

Behold, I will put a fleece of wool in the floor; and if the dew be on the fleece only, and it be dry upon all the earth beside, then shall I know that thou wilt save Israel by mine hand, as thou hast said.

அப்படியே ஆயிற்று. அவன் மறுநாள் காலமே எழுந்திருந்து, தோலைக்கசக்கி, அதிலிருந்த பனிநீரை ஒரு கிண்ணம் நிறையப் பிழிந்தான்.

And it was so: for he rose up early on the morrow, and thrust the fleece together, and wringed the dew out of the fleece, a bowl full of water.

அப்பொழுது கிதியோன் தேவனை நோக்கி: நான் இன்னும் ஒரு விசை மாத்திரம் பேசுகிறேன், உமது கோபம் என்மேல் மூளாதிருப்பதாக; தோலினாலே நான் இன்னும் ஒரே விசை சோதனைபண்ணட்டும்; தோல் மாத்திரம் காய்ந்திருக்கவும் பூமியெங்கும் பனி பெய்திருக்கவும் கட்டளையிடும் என்றான்.

And Gideon said unto God, Let not thine anger be hot against me, and I will speak but this once: let me prove, I pray thee, but this once with the fleece; let it now be dry only upon the fleece, and upon all the ground let there be dew.

அப்படியே தேவன் அன்று இராத்திரி செய்தார்; தோல்மாத்திரம் காய்ந்திருந்து, பூமியெங்கும் பனி பெய்திருந்தது.

And God did so that night: for it was dry upon the fleece only, and there was dew on all the ground.

நியாயாதிபதிகள் அத்தியாயம் 7

அப்பொழுது கிதியோனாகிய யெருபாகாலும் அவனோடிருந்த ஜனங்கள் யாவரும் காலமே எழுந்து புறப்பட்டு, ஆரோத் என்னும் நீருற்றின் கிட்டப் பாளயமிறங்கினார்கள்; மீதியானியரின் பாளயம் அவனுக்கு வடக்கே மோரே மேட்டிற்குப் பின்னான பள்ளத்தாக்கிலே இருந்தது.

Then Jerubbaal, who is Gideon, and all the people that were with him, rose up early, and pitched beside the well of Harod: so that the host of the Midianites were on the north side of them, by the hill of Moreh, in the valley.

அப்பொழுது கர்த்தர் கிதியோனை நோக்கி: நான் மீதியானியரை உன்னோடிருக்கிற ஜனத்தின் கையில் ஒப்புக்கொடுக்கிறதற்கு அவர்கள் மிகுதியாயிருக்கிறார்கள்; என் கை என்னை இரட்சித்தது என்று இஸ்ரவேல் எனக்கு விரோதமாக வீம்பு பேசுகிறதற்கு இடமாகும்.

And the LORD said unto Gideon, The people that are with thee are too many for me to give the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel vaunt themselves against me, saying, Mine own hand hath saved me.

ஆகையால் பயமும் திகிலும் உள்ளவன் எவனோ அவன் திரும்பி, கீலேயாத் மலைகளிலிருந்து விரைவாய் ஓடிப்போகக்கடவன் என்று, நீ ஜனங்களின் செவிகள் கேட்கப் பிரசித்தப்படுத்து என்றார்; அப்பொழுது ஜனத்தில் இருபத்தீராயிரம்பேர் திரும்பிப் போய்விட்டார்கள்; பதினாயிரம்பேர் மீதியாயிருந்தார்கள்.

Now therefore go to, proclaim in the ears of the people, saying, Whosoever is fearful and afraid, let him return and depart early from mount Gilead. And there returned of the people twenty and two thousand; and there remained ten thousand.

கர்த்தர் கிதியோனை நோக்கி: ஜனங்கள் இன்னும் அதிகம், அவர்களைத் தண்ணீரண்டைக்கு இறங்கிப்போகப்பண்ணு; அங்கே அவர்களைப் பரீட்சித்துக்காட்டுவேன்; உன்னோடேகூட வரலாம் என்று நான் யாரைக் குறிக்கிறேனோ, அவன் உன்னோடேகூட வரக்கடவன்; உன்னோடேகூட வரலாகாது என்று நான் யாரைக் குறிக்கிறேனோ, அவன் உன்னோடேகூட வராதிருக்கக்கடவன் என்றார்.

And the LORD said unto Gideon, The people are yet too many; bring them down unto the water, and I will try them for thee there: and it shall be, that of whom I say unto thee, This shall go with thee, the same shall go with thee; and of whomsoever I say unto thee, This shall not go with thee, the same shall not go.

அப்படியே அவன் ஜனங்களைத் தண்ணீரண்டைக்கு இறங்கிப்போகப்பண்ணினான்; அப்பொழுது கர்த்தர் கிதியோனை நோக்கி: தண்ணீரை ஒரு நாய் நக்கும்பிரகாரமாக அதைத் தன் நாவினாலே நக்குகிறவன் எவனோ அவனைத் தனியேயும், குடிக்கிறதற்கு முழங்கால் ஊன்றிக்குனிகிறவன் எவனோ, அவனைத் தனியேயும் நிறுத்து என்றார்.

So he brought down the people unto the water: and the LORD said unto Gideon, Every one that lappeth of the water with his tongue, as a dog lappeth, him shalt thou set by himself; likewise every one that boweth down upon his knees to drink.

தங்கள் கையால் அள்ளி, தங்கள் வாய்க்கெடுத்து, நக்கிக்கொண்டவர்களின் இலக்கம் முந்நூறுபேர்; மற்ற ஜனங்களெல்லாம் தண்ணீர் குடிக்கிறதற்கு முழங்கால் ஊன்றிக் குனிந்தார்கள்.

And the number of them that lapped, putting their hand to their mouth, were three hundred men: but all the rest of the people bowed down upon their knees to drink water.

அப்பொழுது கர்த்தர் கிதியோனை நோக்கி: நக்கிக்குடித்த அந்த முந்நூறுபேராலே நான் உங்களை இரட்சித்து, மீதியானியரை உன் கையில் ஒப்புக்கொடுப்பேன், மற்ற ஜனங்களெல்லாரும் தங்கள் தங்கள் இடத்திற்குப் போகக்கடவர்கள் என்றார்.

And the LORD said unto Gideon, By the three hundred men that lapped will I save you, and deliver the Midianites into thine hand: and let all the other people go every man unto his place.

அப்பொழுது ஜனங்கள் தங்கள் கையில் தின்பண்டங்களையும் எக்காளங்களையும் எடுத்துக்கொண்டார்கள்; மற்ற இஸ்ரவேலரெல்லாரையும் தங்கள்தங்கள் கூடாரங்களுக்கு அனுப்பிவிட்டு, அந்த முந்நூறுபேரை மாத்திரம் வைத்துக்கொண்டான்; மீதியானியரின் சேனை அவனுக்குத் தாழ்விடமான பள்ளத்தாக்கில் இருந்தது.

So the people took victuals in their hand, and their trumpets: and he sent all the rest of Israel every man unto his tent, and retained those three hundred men: and the host of Midian was beneath him in the valley.

And it came to pass the same night, that the LORD said unto him, Arise, get thee down unto the host; for I have delivered it into thine hand.

போகப் பயப்பட்டாயானால், முதல் நீயும் உன் வேலைக்காரனாகிய பூராவும் சேனையினிடத்திற்குப் போய்,

But if thou fear to go down, go thou with Phurah thy servant down to the host:

அங்கே என்ன பேசுகிறார்கள் என்று கேள்; பின்பு சேனையினிடத்திற்குப் போக, உன் கைகள் திடப்படும் என்றார்; அப்படியே அவனும் அவன் வேலைக்காரனாகிய பூராவும் சேனையின் முன்னணியிலே ஜாமம் காக்கிறவர்களின் இடமட்டும் போனார்கள்.

And thou shalt hear what they say; and afterward shall thine hands be strengthened to go down unto the host. Then went he down with Phurah his servant unto the outside of the armed men that were in the host.

மீதியானியரும், அமலேக்கியரும், சகல கிழக்கத்திய புத்திரரும், வெட்டுக்கிளிகளைப்போலத் திரளாய்ப் பள்ளத்தாக்கிலே படுத்துக்கிடந்தார்கள்; அவர்களுடைய ஒட்டகங்களுக்கும் கணக்கில்லை, கடற்கரை மணலைப்போலத் திரளாயிருந்தது.

And the Midianites and the Amalekites and all the children of the east lay along in the valley like grasshoppers for multitude; and their camels were without number, as the sand by the sea side for multitude.

கிதியோன் வந்தபோது, ஒருவன் மற்றொருவனுக்கு ஒரு சொப்பனத்தைச் சொன்னான். அதாவது இதோ ஒரு சொப்பனத்தைக் கண்டேன்; சுட்டிருந்த ஒரு வாற்கோதுமை அப்பம் மீதியானியரின் பாளயத்திற்கு உருண்டுவந்தது, அது கூடாரமட்டும் வந்தபோது, அதை விழத்தள்ளிக் கவிழ்த்துப்போட்டது, கூடாரம் விழுந்துகிடந்தது என்றான்.

And when Gideon was come, behold, there was a man that told a dream unto his fellow, and said, Behold, I dreamed a dream, and, lo, a cake of barley bread tumbled into the host of Midian, and came unto a tent, and smote it that it fell, and overturned it, that the tent lay along.

அப்பொழுது மற்றவன்; இது யோவாசின் குமாரனாகிய கிதியோன் என்னும் இஸ்ரவேலனுடைய பட்டயமே அல்லாமல் வேறல்ல; தேவன் மீதியானியரையும், இந்தச் சேனை அனைத்தையும், அவன் கையிலே ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தார் என்றான்.

And his fellow answered and said, This is nothing else save the sword of Gideon the son of Joash, a man of Israel: for into his hand hath God delivered Midian, and all the host.

And it was so, when Gideon heard the telling of the dream, and the interpretation thereof, that he worshipped, and returned into the host of Israel, and said, Arise; for the LORD hath delivered into your hand the host of Midian.

And he divided the three hundred men into three companies, and he put a trumpet in every man's hand, with empty pitchers, and lamps within the pitchers.

And he said unto them, Look on me, and do likewise: and, behold, when I come to the outside of the camp, it shall be that, as I do, so shall ye do.

When I blow with a trumpet, I and all that are with me, then blow ye the trumpets also on every side of all the camp, and say, The sword of the LORD, and of Gideon.

நடுஜாமத்தின் துவக்கத்தில், ஜாமக்காரரை மாற்றிவைத்தபின்பு, கிதியோனும் அவனோடிருந்த நூறுபேரும் அந்த ஜாமத்தின் துவக்கத்திலே பாளயத்தின் முன்னணியில் வந்து, எக்காளங்களை ஊதி, தங்கள் கையிலிருந்த பானைகளை உடைத்தார்கள்.

So Gideon, and the hundred men that were with him, came unto the outside of the camp in the beginning of the middle watch; and they had but newly set the watch: and they blew the trumpets, and brake the pitchers that were in their hands.

And the three companies blew the trumpets, and brake the pitchers, and held the lamps in their left hands, and the trumpets in their right hands to blow withal: and they cried, The sword of the LORD, and of Gideon.

பாளயத்தைச் சுற்றிலும் அவரவர் தங்கள் நிலையிலே நின்றார்கள்; அப்பொழுது பாளயத்தில் இருந்தவர்கள் எல்லாரும் சிதறிக் கூக்குரலிட்டு, ஓடிப்போனார்கள்.

And they stood every man in his place round about the camp: and all the host ran, and cried, and fled.

முந்நூறுபேரும் எக்காளங்களை ஊதுகையில், கர்த்தர் பாளயமெங்கும் ஒருவர் பட்டயத்தை ஒருவருக்கு விரோதமாய் ஓங்கப்பண்ணினார்; சேனையானது சேரோத்திலுள்ள பெத்சித்தாமட்டும், தாபாத்திற்குச் சமீபமான ஆபேல்மேகொலாவின் எல்லைமட்டும் ஓடிப்போயிற்று.

And the three hundred blew the trumpets, and the LORD set every man's sword against his fellow, even throughout all the host: and the host fled to Bethshittah in Zererath, and to the border of Abelmeholah, unto Tabbath.

அப்பொழுது நப்தலி மனுஷரும், ஆசேர் மனுஷரும், மனாசேயின் சகல மனுஷருமாகிய இஸ்ரவேலர் கூடிவந்து, மீதியானியரைப் பின்தொடர்ந்து போனார்கள்.

And the men of Israel gathered themselves together out of Naphtali, and out of Asher, and out of all Manasseh, and pursued after the Midianites.

And Gideon sent messengers throughout all mount Ephraim, saying, Come down against the Midianites, and take before them the waters unto Bethbarah and Jordan. Then all the men of Ephraim gathered themselves together, and took the waters unto Bethbarah and Jordan.

And they took two princes of the Midianites, Oreb and Zeeb; and they slew Oreb upon the rock Oreb, and Zeeb they slew at the winepress of Zeeb, and pursued Midian, and brought the heads of Oreb and Zeeb to Gideon on the other side Jordan.

Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where was a synagogue of the Jews:

And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures,

Opening and alleging, that Christ must needs have suffered, and risen again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is Christ.

And some of them believed, and consorted with Paul and Silas; and of the devout Greeks a great multitude, and of the chief women not a few.

But the Jews which believed not, moved with envy, took unto them certain lewd fellows of the baser sort, and gathered a company, and set all the city on an uproar, and assaulted the house of Jason, and sought to bring them out to the people.

And when they found them not, they drew Jason and certain brethren unto the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also;

Whom Jason hath received: and these all do contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, one Jesus.

And they troubled the people and the rulers of the city, when they heard these things.

And when they had taken security of Jason, and of the other, they let them go.

And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews.

These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

அதனால் அவர்களில் அநேகம்பேரும் கனம்பொருந்திய கிரேக்கரில் அநேக ஸ்திரீகளும் புருஷர்களும் விசுவாசித்தார்கள்.

Therefore many of them believed; also of honourable women which were Greeks, and of men, not a few.

பெரோயாவிலும் தேவவசனம் பவுலினால் அறிவிக்கப்படுகிறதென்று தெசலோனிக்கேயரான யூதர்கள் அறிந்தபோது, அங்கேயும் வந்து, ஜனங்களைக் கிளப்பிவிட்டார்கள்.

But when the Jews of Thessalonica had knowledge that the word of God was preached of Paul at Berea, they came thither also, and stirred up the people.

உடனே சகோதரர் பவுலைச் சமுத்திரவழியாய்ப் போக அனுப்பிவிட்டார்கள். சீலாவும் தீமோத்தேயும் அங்கே தங்கியிருந்தார்கள்.

And then immediately the brethren sent away Paul to go as it were to the sea: but Silas and Timotheus abode there still.

And they that conducted Paul brought him unto Athens: and receiving a commandment unto Silas and Timotheus for to come to him with all speed, they departed.

Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was stirred in him, when he saw the city wholly given to idolatry.

Therefore disputed he in the synagogue with the Jews, and with the devout persons, and in the market daily with them that met with him.

Then certain philosophers of the Epicureans, and of the Stoicks, encountered him. And some said, What will this babbler say? other some, He seemeth to be a setter forth of strange gods: because he preached unto them Jesus, and the resurrection.

அவர்கள் அவனை மார்ஸ் மேடைக்கு அழைத்துக்கொண்டுபோய்: நீ சொல்லுகிற புதிதான உபதேசம் இன்னதென்று நாங்கள் அறியலாமா?

And they took him, and brought him unto Areopagus, saying, May we know what this new doctrine, whereof thou speakest, is?

நூதனமான காரியங்களை எங்கள் காதுகள் கேட்கப்பண்ணுகிறாய்; அவைகளின் கருத்து இன்னதென்று அறியமனதாயிருக்கிறோம் என்றார்கள்.

For thou bringest certain strange things to our ears: we would know therefore what these things mean.

அந்த அத்தேனே பட்டணத்தாரெல்லாரும், அங்கே தங்குகிற அந்நியரும், நவமான காரியங்களைச் சொல்லுகிறதிலும் கேட்கிறதிலுமேயொழிய வேறொன்றிலும் பொழுதுபோக்குகிறதில்லை.

For all the Athenians and strangers which were there spent their time in nothing else, but either to tell, or to hear some new thing.)

அப்பொழுது பவுல் மார்ஸ் மேடையின் நடுவிலே நின்று: அத்தேனரே, எந்த விஷயத்திலும் நீங்கள் மிகுந்த தேவதாபக்தியுள்ளவர்களென்று காண்கிறேன்.

Then Paul stood in the midst of Mars' hill, and said, Ye men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are too superstitious.

எப்படியென்றால், நான் சுற்றித்திரிந்து, உங்கள் ஆராதனைக்குரியவைகளைக் கவனித்துப் பார்த்தபொழுது, அறியப்படாத தேவனுக்கு என்று எழுதியிருக்கிற ஒரு பலிபீடத்தைக் கண்டேன்; நீங்கள் அறியாமல் ஆராதிக்கிற அவரையே நான் உங்களுக்கு அறிவிக்கிறேன்.

For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you.

உலகத்தையும் அதிலுள்ள யாவற்றையும் உண்டாக்கின தேவனானவர் வானத்திற்கும் பூமிக்கும் ஆண்டவராயிருக்கிறபடியால் கைகளினால் கட்டப்பட்ட கோவில்களில் அவர் வாசம்பண்ணுகிறதில்லை.

God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;

எல்லாருக்கும் ஜீவனையும் சுவாசத்தையும் சகலத்தையும் கொடுக்கிற அவர், தமக்கு யாதொன்று தேவையானதுபோல, மனுஷர் கைகளால் பணிவிடைகொள்ளுகிறதுமில்லை.

Neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;

மனுஷஜாதியான சகல ஜனங்களையும் அவர் ஒரே இரத்தத்தினாலே தோன்றப்பண்ணி, பூமியின்மீதெங்கும் குடியிருக்கச்செய்து, முன் தீர்மானிக்கப்பட்ட காலங்களையும் அவர்கள் குடியிருப்பின் எல்லைகளையும் குறித்திருக்கிறார்;

And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;

கர்த்தராகிய தம்மை அவர்கள் தடவியாகிலும் கண்டுபிடிக்கத்தக்கதாகத் தம்மைத் தேடும்படிக்கு அப்படிச் செய்தார்; அவர் நம்மில் ஒருவருக்கும் தூரமானவரல்லவே.

That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:

ஏனெனில் அவருக்குள் நாம் பிழைக்கிறோம், அசைகிறோம், இருக்கிறோம்; அப்படியே உங்கள் புலவர்களிலும் சிலர், நாம் அவருடைய சந்ததியார் என்று சொல்லியிருக்கிறார்கள்.

For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.

நாம் தேவனுடைய சந்ததியாராயிருக்க, மனுஷருடைய சித்திரவேலையினாலும் யுக்தியினாலும் உருவாக்கின பொன், வெள்ளி, கல் இவைகளுக்கு தெய்வம் ஒப்பாயிருக்குமென்று நாம் நினைக்கலாகாது.

Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device.

அறியாமையுள்ள காலங்களை தேவன் காணாதவர் போலிருந்தார்; இப்பொழுதோ மனந்திரும்பவேண்டுமென்று எங்குமுள்ள மனுஷரெல்லாருக்கும் கட்டளையிடுகிறார்.

And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:

மேலும் ஒரு நாளைக் குறித்திருக்கிறார்; அதிலே அவர் தாம் நியமித்த மனுஷனைக்கொண்டு, பூலோகத்தை நீதியாய் நியாயந்தீர்ப்பார்; அந்த மனுஷனை மரித்தோரிலிருந்து எழுப்பினதினாலே அதின் நிச்சயத்தை எல்லாருக்கும் விளங்கப்பண்ணினார் என்றான்.

Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.

மரித்தோரின் உயிர்த்தெழுதலைக் குறித்து அவர்கள் கேட்டபொழுது, சிலர் இகழ்ந்தார்கள். சிலர்: நீ சொல்லுகிறதை இன்னொருவேளை கேட்போம் என்றார்கள்.

And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked: and others said, We will hear thee again of this matter.

இப்படியிருக்க, பவுல் அவர்களைவிட்டுப் போய்விட்டான்.

So Paul departed from among them.

Howbeit certain men clave unto him, and believed: among the which was Dionysius the Areopagite, and a woman named Damaris, and others with them.
