நியாயாதிபதிகள் அத்தியாயம் 19

இஸ்ரவேலில் ராஜா இல்லாத அந்நாட்களிலே, எப்பிராயீம் மலைகள் அருகே பரதேசியாய்த் தங்கின ஒரு லேவியன் இருந்தான்; அவன் யூதாவிலுள்ள பெத்லெகேம் ஊராளாகிய ஒரு ஸ்திரீயைத் தனக்கு மறுமனையாட்டியாகக் கொண்டிருந்தான்.

And it came to pass in those days, when there was no king in Israel, that there was a certain Levite sojourning on the side of mount Ephraim, who took to him a concubine out of Bethlehemjudah.

அவள் அவனுக்குத் துரோகமாய் விபசாரம்பண்ணி, அவனை விட்டு, யூதா தேசத்துப் பெத்லெகேம் ஊரிலிருக்கிற தன் தகப்பன் வீட்டுக்குப் போய், அங்கே நாலு மாதம் வரைக்கும் இருந்தாள்.

And his concubine played the whore against him, and went away from him unto her father's house to Bethlehemjudah, and was there four whole months.

அவள் புருஷன் அவளோடே நலவு சொல்லவும், அவளைத் திரும்ப அழைத்து வரவும், இரண்டு கழுதைகளை ஆயத்தப்படுத்தி, தன் வேலைக்காரனைக் கூட்டிக்கொண்டு, அவளிடத்துக்குப் போனான்; அப்பொழுது அவள் அவனைத் தன் தகப்பன் வீட்டுக்கு அழைத்துக்கொண்டு போனாள்; ஸ்திரீயின் தகப்பன் அவனைக்கண்டபோது சந்தோஷமாய் ஏற்றுக்கொண்டு,

And her husband arose, and went after her, to speak friendly unto her, and to bring her again, having his servant with him, and a couple of asses: and she brought him into her father's house: and when the father of the damsel saw him, he rejoiced to meet him.

ஸ்திரீயின் தகப்பனாகிய அவனுடைய மாமன் அவனை இருத்திக்கொண்டதினால், மூன்றுநாள் அவனோடிருந்தான்; அவர்கள் அங்கே புசித்துக் குடித்து இராத்தங்கினார்கள்.

And his father in law, the damsel's father, retained him; and he abode with him three days: so they did eat and drink, and lodged there.

நாலாம்நாள் காலமே அவர்கள் எழுந்திருந்தபோது, அவன் பிரயாணப்படுகையில், ஸ்திரீயின் தகப்பன் தன் மருமகனை நோக்கி: கொஞ்சம் அப்பம் புசித்து, உன் மனதைத் தேற்றிக்கொள்; பிற்பாடு நீங்கள் போகலாம் என்றான்.

And it came to pass on the fourth day, when they arose early in the morning, that he rose up to depart: and the damsel's father said unto his son in law, Comfort thine heart with a morsel of bread, and afterward go your way.

அவர்கள் உட்கார்ந்து, இருவரும் கூடப் புசித்துக் குடித்தார்கள்; ஸ்திரீயின் தகப்பன் அந்த மனுஷனைப் பார்த்து: நீ தயவுசெய்து, உன் இருதயம் மகிழ்ச்சியடைய இராத்திரிக்கும் இரு என்றான்.

And they sat down, and did eat and drink both of them together: for the damsel's father had said unto the man, Be content, I pray thee, and tarry all night, and let thine heart be merry.

அப்படியே போகிறதற்கு அந்த மனுஷன் எழுந்தபோது, அவனுடைய மாமன் அவனை வருந்திக்கொண்டதினால், அவன் அன்று இராத்திரியும் அங்கே இருந்தான்.

And when the man rose up to depart, his father in law urged him: therefore he lodged there again.

ஐந்தாம் நாளிலே அவன் போகிறதற்கு அதிகாலமே எழுந்திருந்தபோது, ஸ்திரீயின் தகப்பன்: இருந்து உன் இருதயத்தைத் தேற்றிக்கொள் என்றான்; அப்படியே அந்திநேரமட்டும் தாமதித்திருந்து, இருவரும் போஜனம்பண்ணினார்கள்.

And he arose early in the morning on the fifth day to depart: and the damsel's father said, Comfort thine heart, I pray thee. And they tarried until afternoon, and they did eat both of them.

பின்பு அவனும், அவன் மறுமனையாட்டியும், அவன் வேலைக்காரனும் போகிறதற்கு எழுந்திருந்தபோது, ஸ்திரீயின் தகப்பனாகிய அவனுடைய மாமன்: இதோ, பொழுது அஸ்தமிக்கப்போகிறது, சாயங்காலமுமாயிற்று; இங்கே இராத்திரிக்கு இருங்கள்; பார், மாலைமயங்குகிற வேளையாயிற்று: உன் இருதயம் சந்தோஷமாயிருக்கும்படி, இங்கே இராத்தங்கி நாளை இருட்டோடே எழுந்திருந்து, உன் வீட்டுக்குப் போகலாம் என்றான்.

And when the man rose up to depart, he, and his concubine, and his servant, his father in law, the damsel's father, said unto him, Behold, now the day draweth toward evening, I pray you tarry all night: behold, the day groweth to an end, lodge here, that thine heart may be merry; and to morrow get you early on your way, that thou mayest go home.

அந்த மனுஷனோ, இராத்திரிக்கு இருக்க மனதில்லாமல், இரண்டு கழுதைகள்மேலும் சேணம்வைத்து, தன் மறுமனையாட்டியைக் கூட்டிக்கொண்டு, எழுந்து புறப்பட்டு, எருசலேமாகிய எபூசுக்கு நேராக வந்தான்.

But the man would not tarry that night, but he rose up and departed, and came over against Jebus, which is Jerusalem; and there were with him two asses saddled, his concubine also was with him.

அவர்கள் எபூசுக்குச் சமீபமாய் வருகையில், பொழுதுபோகிறதாயிருந்தது; அப்பொழுது வேலைக்காரன் தன் எஜமானை நோக்கி: எபூசியர் இருக்கிற இந்தப் பட்டணத்திற்குப் போய், அங்கே இராத்தங்கலாம் என்றான்.

And when they were by Jebus, the day was far spent; and the servant said unto his master, Come, I pray thee, and let us turn in into this city of the Jebusites, and lodge in it.

அதற்கு அவன் எஜமான் நாம் வழியைவிட்டு, இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரரில்லாத மறுஜாதியார் இருக்கிற பட்டணத்துக்குப் போகப்படாது; அப்பாலே கிபியா மட்டும் போவோம் என்று சொல்லி,

And his master said unto him, We will not turn aside hither into the city of a stranger, that is not of the children of Israel; we will pass over to Gibeah.

தன் வேலைக்காரனைப் பார்த்து: நாம் கிபியாவிலாகிலும் ராமாவிலாகிலும் இராத்தங்கும்படிக்கு, அவைகளில் ஒரு இடத்திற்குப் போய்ச் சேரும்படி நடந்து போவோம் வா என்றான்.

And he said unto his servant, Come, and let us draw near to one of these places to lodge all night, in Gibeah, or in Ramah.

அப்படியே அப்பாலே நடந்துபோனார்கள்; பென்யமீன் நாட்டைச் சேர்ந்த கிபியாவின் கிட்ட வருகையில், சூரியன் அஸ்தமனமாயிற்று.

And they passed on and went their way; and the sun went down upon them when they were by Gibeah, which belongeth to Benjamin.

ஆகையால் கிபியாவிலே வந்து இராத்தங்கும்படிக்கு, வழியைவிட்டு அவ்விடத்திற்குப் போனார்கள்; அவன் பட்டணத்துக்குள் போனபோது, இராத்தங்குகிறதற்கு அவர்களை வீட்டிலே சேர்த்துக்கொள்வார் இல்லாததினால், வீதியில் உட்கார்ந்தான்.

And they turned aside thither, to go in and to lodge in Gibeah: and when he went in, he sat him down in a street of the city: for there was no man that took them into his house to lodging.

வயலிலே வேலைசெய்து, மாலையிலே திரும்புகிற ஒரு கிழவன் வந்தான்; அந்த மனுஷனும் எப்பிராயீம் மலைதேசத்தான், அவன் கிபியாவிலே சஞ்சரிக்க வந்தான்; அவ்விடத்து மனுஷரோ பென்யமீனர்.

And, behold, there came an old man from his work out of the field at even, which was also of mount Ephraim; and he sojourned in Gibeah: but the men of the place were Benjamites.

அந்தக் கிழவன் தன் கண்களை ஏறெடுத்துப் பட்டணத்து வீதியில் அந்தப் பிரயாணக்காரன் இருக்கக் கண்டு: எங்கே போகிறாய், எங்கேயிருந்து வந்தாய் என்று கேட்டான்.

And when he had lifted up his eyes, he saw a wayfaring man in the street of the city: and the old man said, Whither goest thou? and whence comest thou?

அதற்கு அவன்: நாங்கள் யூதாவிலுள்ள ஊராகிய பெத்லெகேமிலிருந்து வந்து, எப்பிராயீம் மலைத்தேசத்தின் புறங்கள்மட்டும் போகிறோம்; நான் அவ்விடத்தான்; யூதாவிலுள்ள பெத்லெகேம் மட்டும் போய்வந்தேன், நான் கர்த்தருடைய ஆலயத்துக்குப் போகிறேன்; இங்கே என்னை வீட்டிலே ஏற்றுக்கொள்வார் ஒருவரும் இல்லை.

And he said unto him, We are passing from Bethlehemjudah toward the side of mount Ephraim; from thence am I: and I went to Bethlehemjudah, but I am now going to the house of the LORD; and there is no man that receiveth me to house.

எங்கள் கழுதைகளுக்கு வைக்கோலும் தீவனமும் உண்டு; எனக்கும் உமது அடியாளுக்கும் உமது அடியானோடிருக்கிற வேலைக்காரனுக்கும் அப்பமும் திராட்சரசமும் உண்டு; ஒன்றிலும் குறைவில்லை என்றான்.

Yet there is both straw and provender for our asses; and there is bread and wine also for me, and for thy handmaid, and for the young man which is with thy servants: there is no want of any thing.

அப்பொழுது அந்தக் கிழவன்: உனக்குச் சமாதானம்; உன் குறைவுகளெல்லாம் என்மேல் இருக்கட்டும்; வீதியிலே மாத்திரம் இராத்தங்க வேண்டாம் என்று சொல்லி,

And the old man said, Peace be with thee; howsoever let all thy wants lie upon me; only lodge not in the street.

அவனைத் தன் வீட்டுக்குள் அழைத்துக்கொண்டுபோய், கழுதைகளுக்குத் தீவனம் போட்டான்; அவர்கள் தங்கள் கால்களைக் கழுவிக்கொண்டு, புசித்துக் குடித்தார்கள்.

So he brought him into his house, and gave provender unto the asses: and they washed their feet, and did eat and drink.

Now as they were making their hearts merry, behold, the men of the city, certain sons of Belial, beset the house round about, and beat at the door, and spake to the master of the house, the old man, saying, Bring forth the man that came into thine house, that we may know him.

அப்பொழுது வீட்டுக்காரனாகிய அந்த மனுஷன் வெளியே அவர்களிடத்தில் போய்: இப்படிச் செய்யவேண்டாம்; என் சகோதரரே, இப்படிப்பட்ட பொல்லாப்பைச் செய்யவேண்டாம்; அந்த மனுஷன் என் வீட்டிற்குள் வந்திருக்கையில், இப்படிக்கொத்த மதிகேட்டைச் செய்யீர்களாக.

And the man, the master of the house, went out unto them, and said unto them, Nay, my brethren, nay, I pray you, do not so wickedly; seeing that this man is come into mine house, do not this folly.

இதோ, கன்னியாஸ்திரீயாகிய என் மகளும், அந்த மனிதனுடைய மறுமனையாட்டியும் இருக்கிறார்கள்; அவர்களை உங்களிடத்தில் வெளியே கொண்டுவருகிறேன்; அவர்களை அவமானப்படுத்தி, உங்கள் பார்வைக்குச் சரிபோனபிரகாரம் அவர்களுக்குச் செய்யுங்கள்; ஆனாலும் இந்த மனுஷனுக்கு அப்படிப்பட்ட மதிகேடான காரியத்தைச் செய்யவேண்டாம் என்றான்.

Behold, here is my daughter a maiden, and his concubine; them I will bring out now, and humble ye them, and do with them what seemeth good unto you: but unto this man do not so vile a thing.

அந்த மனுஷர் அவன் சொல்லைக்கேட்கவில்லை; அப்பொழுது அந்த மனுஷன் தன் மறுமனையாட்டியைப் பிடித்து, அவர்களிடத்தில் வெளியே கொண்டுவந்து விட்டான்; அவர்கள் அவளை அறிந்துகொண்டு, இராமுழுவதும் விடியுங்காலமட்டும் அவளை இலச்சையாய் நடத்தி, கிழக்கு வெளுக்கும்போது அவளைப்போகவிட்டார்கள்.

But the men would not hearken to him: so the man took his concubine, and brought her forth unto them; and they knew her, and abused her all the night until the morning: and when the day began to spring, they let her go.

விடியுங்காலத்திற்கு முன்னே அந்த ஸ்திரீ வந்து, வெளிச்சமாகுமட்டும் அங்கே தன் எஜமான் இருந்த வீட்டுவாசற்படியிலே விழுந்துகிடந்தாள்.

Then came the woman in the dawning of the day, and fell down at the door of the man's house where her lord was, till it was light.

அவள் எஜமான் காலமே எழுந்திருந்து வீட்டின் கதவைத் திறந்து, தன் வழியே போகப் புறப்படுகிறபோது, இதோ, அவன் மறுமனையாட்டியாகிய ஸ்திரீ வீட்டுவாசலுக்கு முன்பாகத் தன் கைகளை வாசற்படியின்மேல் வைத்தவளாய்க் கிடந்தாள்.

And her lord rose up in the morning, and opened the doors of the house, and went out to go his way: and, behold, the woman his concubine was fallen down at the door of the house, and her hands were upon the threshold.

And he said unto her, Up, and let us be going. But none answered. Then the man took her up upon an ass, and the man rose up, and gat him unto his place.

அவன் தன் வீட்டுக்கு வந்தபோது, ஒரு கத்தியை எடுத்து, தன் மறுமனையாட்டியைப் பிடித்து, அவளை அவளுடைய எலும்புகளோடுங்கூடப் பன்னிரண்டு துண்டமாக்கி, இஸ்ரவேலின் எல்லைகளுக்கெல்லாம் அனுப்பினான்.

And when he was come into his house, he took a knife, and laid hold on his concubine, and divided her, together with her bones, into twelve pieces, and sent her into all the coasts of Israel.

அப்பொழுது அதைக் கண்டவர்களெல்லாரும், இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் எகிப்திலிருந்து புறப்பட்ட நாள் முதற்கொண்டு இந்நாள்வரைக்கும் இதைப்போலொத்த காரியம் செய்யப்படவும் இல்லை, காணப்படவும் இல்லை; இந்தக் காரியத்தை யோசித்து ஆலோசனைபண்ணி செய்யவேண்டியது இன்னதென்று சொல்லுங்கள் என்றார்கள்.

And it was so, that all that saw it said, There was no such deed done nor seen from the day that the children of Israel came up out of the land of Egypt unto this day: consider of it, take advice, and speak your minds.

அப்பொழுது தாண்முதல் பெயெர்செபாமட்டுமுள்ள இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் அனைவரும் கீலேயாத் தேசத்தாருடன் மிஸ்பாவிலே கர்த்தருக்கு முன்பாக ஏகோபித்து சபையாகக் கூடினார்கள்.

Then all the children of Israel went out, and the congregation was gathered together as one man, from Dan even to Beersheba, with the land of Gilead, unto the LORD in Mizpeh.

சகல ஜனங்களின் அதிபதிகளும், இஸ்ரவேலின் சகல கோத்திரத்தாரும் தேவனுடைய ஜனமாகிய சபையாகக் கூடி நின்றார்கள்; அவர்கள் பட்டயம் உருவுகிற நாலு லட்சம் காலாட்கள்.

And the chief of all the people, even of all the tribes of Israel, presented themselves in the assembly of the people of God, four hundred thousand footmen that drew sword.

இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் மிஸ்பாவுக்கு வந்த செய்தியைப் பென்யமீன் புத்திரர் கேள்விப்பட்டார்கள்; அந்த அக்கிரமம் நடந்தது எப்படி, சொல்லுங்கள் என்று இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் கேட்டார்கள்.

(Now the children of Benjamin heard that the children of Israel were gone up to Mizpeh.) Then said the children of Israel, Tell us, how was this wickedness?

அப்பொழுது கொலை செய்யப்பட்ட ஸ்திரீயின் புருஷனாகிய லேவியன் மாறுத்தரமாக: நானும் என் மறுமனையாட்டியும் பென்யமீன் நாட்டிலுள்ள கிபியாவிலே இராத்தங்க வந்தோம்.

And the Levite, the husband of the woman that was slain, answered and said, I came into Gibeah that belongeth to Benjamin, I and my concubine, to lodge.

அப்பொழுது கிபியாபட்டணத்தார் எனக்கு விரோதமாய் எழும்பி, என்னைக் கொலை செய்ய நினைத்து, நான் இருந்த வீட்டை இராத்திரியிலே வளைந்து கொண்டு, என் மறுமனையாட்டியை அவமானப்படுத்தினார்கள்; அதினாலே அவள் செத்துப்போனாள்.

And the men of Gibeah rose against me, and beset the house round about upon me by night, and thought to have slain me: and my concubine have they forced, that she is dead.

ஆகையால் இஸ்ரவேலிலே அவர்கள் இப்படிப்பட்ட முறைகேட்டையும் மதிகேட்டையும் செய்தபடியினால், நான் என் மறுமனையாட்டியைப் பிடித்துத் துண்டித்து, இஸ்ரவேலின் சுதந்தரமான சகல நாடுகளுக்கும் அனுப்பினேன்.

And I took my concubine, and cut her in pieces, and sent her throughout all the country of the inheritance of Israel: for they have committed lewdness and folly in Israel.

நீங்கள் எல்லாரும் இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரராமே, இங்கே ஆலோசித்துத் தீர்மானம்பண்ணுங்கள் என்றான்.

Behold, ye are all children of Israel; give here your advice and counsel.

அப்பொழுது எல்லா ஜனங்களும் ஏகமாய் எழும்பி: நம்மில் ஒருவரும் தன் கூடாரத்திற்குப் போகவும்படாது, ஒருவனும் தன் வீட்டிற்குத் திரும்பவும்படாது.

And all the people arose as one man, saying, We will not any of us go to his tent, neither will we any of us turn into his house.

இப்பொழுது கிபியாவுக்குச் செய்யவேண்டியது என்னவென்றால்: சீட்டுப்போட்டு அதற்கு விரோதமாகப் போவோம்.

But now this shall be the thing which we will do to Gibeah; we will go up by lot against it;

பென்யமீன் கோத்திரமான கிபியா பட்டணத்தார் இஸ்ரவேலிலே செய்த எல்லா மதிகேட்டுக்கும் தக்கதாக ஜனங்கள் வந்து செய்யும்படிக்கு, நாம் தானிய தவசங்களைச் சம்பாதிக்கிறதற்கு, இஸ்ரவேல் கோத்திரங்களிலெல்லாம் நூறு பேரில் பத்துப்பேரையும், ஆயிரம் பேரில் நூறுபேரையும், பதினாயிரம் பேரில் ஆயிரம்பேரையும் தெரிந்தெடுப்போம் என்றார்கள்.

And we will take ten men of an hundred throughout all the tribes of Israel, and an hundred of a thousand, and a thousand out of ten thousand, to fetch victual for the people, that they may do, when they come to Gibeah of Benjamin, according to all the folly that they have wrought in Israel.

இஸ்ரவேலரெல்லாரும் ஒன்றுபோல ஏகோபித்துப் பட்டணத்திற்கு முன்பாகக் கூட்டங்கூடி,

So all the men of Israel were gathered against the city, knit together as one man.

அங்கே இருந்த இஸ்ரவேலின் கோத்திரத்தார் பென்யமீன் கோத்திரமெங்கும் ஆட்களை அனுப்பி: உங்களுக்குள்ளே நடந்த இந்த அக்கிரமம் என்ன?

And the tribes of Israel sent men through all the tribe of Benjamin, saying, What wickedness is this that is done among you?

இப்பொழுது கிபியாவில் இருக்கிற பேலியாளின் மக்களாகிய அந்த மனுஷரை நாங்கள் கொன்று, பொல்லாப்பை இஸ்ரவேலை விட்டு விலக்கும்படிக்கு, அவர்களை ஒப்புக்கொடுங்கள் என்று சொல்லச் சொன்னார்கள்; பென்யமீன் புத்திரர் இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரராகிய தங்கள் சகோதரரின் சொல்லைக் கேட்க மனமில்லாமல்,

Now therefore deliver us the men, the children of Belial, which are in Gibeah, that we may put them to death, and put away evil from Israel. But the children of Benjamin would not hearken to the voice of their brethren the children of Israel:

இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரரோடு யுத்தம்பண்ணப் புறப்படும்படிக்கு, பட்டணங்களிலிருந்து கிபியாவுக்கு வந்து கூடினார்கள்.

But the children of Benjamin gathered themselves together out of the cities unto Gibeah, to go out to battle against the children of Israel.

கிபியாவின் குடிகளிலே தெரிந்து கொள்ளப்பட்ட எழுநூறு பேரையல்லாமல் அந்நாளில் பட்டணங்களிலிருந்து வந்து கூடின பட்டயம் உருவுகிற மனுஷரின் இலக்கம் இருபத்தாறாயிரம்பேர் என்று தொகையிடப்பட்டது.

And the children of Benjamin were numbered at that time out of the cities twenty and six thousand men that drew sword, beside the inhabitants of Gibeah, which were numbered seven hundred chosen men.

அந்த ஜனங்களெல்லாருக்குள்ளும் தெரிந்துகொள்ளப்பட்ட இடது கை வாக்கான எழுநூறுபேர் இருந்தார்கள்; அவர்கள் அனைவரும் ஒரு மயிரிழையும் தப்பாதபடிக்குக் கவண்கல் எறிவார்கள்.

Among all this people there were seven hundred chosen men lefthanded; every one could sling stones at an hair breadth, and not miss.

பென்யமீன் கோத்திரத்தையல்லாமல் இஸ்ரவேலிலே பட்டயம் உருவுகிற மனுஷர் நாலு லட்சம்பேர் என்று தொகையிடப்பட்டது; இவர்களெல்லாரும் யுத்தவீரராயிருந்தார்கள்.

And the men of Israel, beside Benjamin, were numbered four hundred thousand men that drew sword: all these were men of war.

இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரரான அவர்கள் எழும்பி, தேவனுடைய வீட்டிற்குப் போய்: எங்களில் யார் முந்திப் போய் பென்யமீன் புத்திரரோடு யுத்தம்பண்ணவேண்டும் என்று தேவனிடத்தில் விசாரித்தார்கள்; அதற்குக் கர்த்தர்: யூதா முந்திப் போகவேண்டும் என்றார்.

And the children of Israel arose, and went up to the house of God, and asked counsel of God, and said, Which of us shall go up first to the battle against the children of Benjamin? And the LORD said, Judah shall go up first.

அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் காலமே எழுந்து புறப்பட்டு, கிபியாவுக்கு எதிராகப் பாளயமிறங்கினார்கள்.

And the children of Israel rose up in the morning, and encamped against Gibeah.

And the men of Israel went out to battle against Benjamin; and the men of Israel put themselves in array to fight against them at Gibeah.

ஆனாலும் பென்யமீன் புத்திரர் கிபியாவிலிருந்து புறப்பட்டு, இஸ்ரவேலில் இருபத்தீராயிரம்பேரை அன்றையதினம் தரையிலே விழும்படி சங்கரித்தார்கள்.

And the children of Benjamin came forth out of Gibeah, and destroyed down to the ground of the Israelites that day twenty and two thousand men.

இஸ்ரவேல் ஜனங்கள் தங்களைத் திடப்படுத்திக்கொண்டு, முதல் நாளில் அணிவகுத்து நின்ற ஸ்தலத்திலே, மறுபடியும் போர் செய்ய அணிவகுத்து நின்றார்கள்.

And the people the men of Israel encouraged themselves, and set their battle again in array in the place where they put themselves in array the first day.

அவர்கள் போய், கர்த்தருடைய சந்நிதியில் சாயங்காலமட்டும் அழுது, எங்கள் சகோதரராகிய பென்யமீன் புத்திரரோடே திரும்பவும் யுத்தம் கலக்கப்போவோமா என்று கர்த்தரிடத்தில் விசாரித்தார்கள்; அப்பொழுது கர்த்தர்: அவர்களுக்கு விரோதமாய்ப் போங்கள் என்றார்.

(And the children of Israel went up and wept before the LORD until even, and asked counsel of the LORD, saying, Shall I go up again to battle against the children of Benjamin my brother? And the LORD said, Go up against him.)

மறுநாளிலே இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் பென்யமீன் புத்திரர் கிட்டச் சேருகிறபோது,

And the children of Israel came near against the children of Benjamin the second day.

பென்யமீன் கோத்திரத்தாரும் அந்நாளிலே கிபியாவிலிருந்து அவர்களுக்கு எதிராகப் புறப்பட்டுவந்து, பின்னும் இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரரில் பட்டயம் உருவுகிற பதினெண்ணாயிரம்பேரைத் தரையிலே விழும்படி சங்கரித்தார்கள்.

And Benjamin went forth against them out of Gibeah the second day, and destroyed down to the ground of the children of Israel again eighteen thousand men; all these drew the sword.

அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரராகிய சகல ஜனங்களும் புறப்பட்டு, தேவனுடைய வீட்டிற்குப் போய், அங்கே கர்த்தருடைய சந்நிதியில் அழுது, தரித்திருந்து, அன்று சாயங்காலமட்டும் உபவாசித்து, கர்த்தருடைய சந்நிதியில் சர்வாங்க தகனபலிகளையும் சமாதானபலிகளையும் இட்டு,

Then all the children of Israel, and all the people, went up, and came unto the house of God, and wept, and sat there before the LORD, and fasted that day until even, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the LORD.

கர்த்தரிடத்தில் விசாரித்தார்கள்; தேவனுடைய உடன்படிக்கையின் பெட்டி அந்நாட்களில் அங்கே இருந்தது.

And the children of Israel enquired of the LORD, (for the ark of the covenant of God was there in those days,

And Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, stood before it in those days,) saying, Shall I yet again go out to battle against the children of Benjamin my brother, or shall I cease? And the LORD said, Go up; for to morrow I will deliver them into thine hand.

அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் கிபியாவைச்சுற்றிலும் பதிவிடையாட்களை வைத்து,

And Israel set liers in wait round about Gibeah.

மூன்றாம் நாளிலே பென்யமீன் புத்திரருக்கு விரோதமாய்ப் போய், முன் இரண்டு தரம் செய்ததுபோல, கிபியாவுக்குச் சமீபமாய்ப் போருக்கு அணிவகுத்து நின்றார்கள்.

And the children of Israel went up against the children of Benjamin on the third day, and put themselves in array against Gibeah, as at other times.

அப்பொழுது பென்யமீன் புத்திரர் ஜனத்திற்கு விரோதமாய்ப் புறப்பட்டுப் பட்டணத்தை விட்டு, அப்பாலே வந்து, வெளியிலே பெத்தேலுக்கும் கிபியாவுக்கும் போகிற இரண்டு வழிகளில் இஸ்ரவேல் ஜனத்தில் ஏறக்குறைய முப்பதுபேரை, முதல் இரண்டுதரம் செய்ததுபோல, வெட்டவும் கொல்லவும் தொடங்கினார்கள்.

And the children of Benjamin went out against the people, and were drawn away from the city; and they began to smite of the people, and kill, as at other times, in the highways, of which one goeth up to the house of God, and the other to Gibeah in the field, about thirty men of Israel.

முன்போல நமக்கு முன்பாக முறிய அடிக்கப்படுகிறார்கள் என்று பென்யமீன் புத்திரர் சொன்னார்கள்; இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரரோ: அவர்களைப் பட்டணத்தை விட்டு அப்பாலேயிருக்கிற வழிகளிலே வரப்பண்ணும்படிக்கு, நாம் ஓடவேண்டும் என்று சொல்லியிருந்தார்கள்.

And the children of Benjamin said, They are smitten down before us, as at the first. But the children of Israel said, Let us flee, and draw them from the city unto the highways.

அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேல் மனுஷர் எல்லாரும் தங்கள் ஸ்தானத்திலிருந்து எழும்பி, பாகால்தாமாரிலே யுத்தத்திற்கு அணிவகுத்து நின்றார்கள்; இஸ்ரவேலரில் கிபியாவின் பள்ளத்தாக்கிலே பதிவிருந்தவர்கள் தங்கள் ஸ்தானத்திலிருந்து புறப்பட்டு,

And all the men of Israel rose up out of their place, and put themselves in array at Baaltamar: and the liers in wait of Israel came forth out of their places, even out of the meadows of Gibeah.

அவர்களில் எல்லா இஸ்ரவேலிலும் தெரிந்துகொள்ளப்பட்ட பதினாயிரம்பேர் கிபியாவுக்கு எதிரே வந்தார்கள்; யுத்தம் பலத்தது; ஆனாலும் தங்களுக்கு விக்கினம் நேரிட்டது என்று அவர்கள் அறியாதிருந்தார்கள்.

And there came against Gibeah ten thousand chosen men out of all Israel, and the battle was sore: but they knew not that evil was near them.

கர்த்தர் இஸ்ரவேலுக்கு முன்பாகப் பென்யமீனை முறிய அடித்தார்; அந்நாளிலே இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் பென்யமீனிலே பட்டயம் உருவுகிற ஆட்களாகிய இருபத்தையாயிரத்து நூறுபேரைச் சங்கரித்தார்கள்.

And the LORD smote Benjamin before Israel: and the children of Israel destroyed of the Benjamites that day twenty and five thousand and an hundred men: all these drew the sword.

இஸ்ரவேலர் கிபியாவுக்கு அப்பாலே வைத்த பதிவிடையை நம்பியிருந்தபடியினாலே, பென்யமீனருக்கு இடம் கொடுத்தார்கள்; அதினாலே அவர்கள் முறிய அடிக்கப்படுகிறார்கள் என்று பென்யமீன் புத்திரருக்குக் காணப்பட்டது.

So the children of Benjamin saw that they were smitten: for the men of Israel gave place to the Benjamites, because they trusted unto the liers in wait which they had set beside Gibeah.

அப்பொழுது பதிவிடையிருந்தவர்கள் தீவிரமாய்க் கிபியாவின்மேல் பாய்ந்து பரவி, பட்டணத்தில் இருக்கிறவர்களெல்லாரையும் பட்டயக்கருக்கினால் வெட்டினார்கள்.

And the liers in wait hasted, and rushed upon Gibeah; and the liers in wait drew themselves along, and smote all the city with the edge of the sword.

பட்டணத்திலிருந்து மகா பெரிய புகையை எழும்பப்பண்ணுவதே இஸ்ரவேலருக்கும் பதிவிடைக்காரருக்கும் குறிக்கப்பட்ட அடையாளமாயிருந்தது.

Now there was an appointed sign between the men of Israel and the liers in wait, that they should make a great flame with smoke rise up out of the city.

ஆகையால் இஸ்ரவேலர் யுத்தத்திலே பின்வாங்கினபோது, பென்யமீனர்: முந்தின யுத்தத்தில் நடந்ததுபோல, அவர்கள் நமக்கு முன்பாக முறிய அடிக்கப்படுகிறார்களே என்று சொல்லி, இஸ்ரவேலரில் ஏறக்குறைய முப்பதுபேரை வெட்டவும் கொல்லவும் தொடங்கினார்கள்.

And when the men of Israel retired in the battle, Benjamin began to smite and kill of the men of Israel about thirty persons: for they said, Surely they are smitten down before us, as in the first battle.

பட்டணத்திலிருந்து புகையானது ஸ்தம்பம்போல உயர எழும்பினபோது, பென்யமீனர் பின்னாகப் பார்த்தார்கள்; இதோ, பட்டணத்தின் அக்கினி ஜூவாலை வானபரியந்தம் எழும்பிற்று.

But when the flame began to arise up out of the city with a pillar of smoke, the Benjamites looked behind them, and, behold, the flame of the city ascended up to heaven.

அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேலர் திரும்பிக் கொண்டார்கள்; பென்யமீன் மனுஷரோ, தங்களுக்கு விக்கினம் நேரிட்டதைக் கண்டு திகைத்து.

And when the men of Israel turned again, the men of Benjamin were amazed: for they saw that evil was come upon them.

இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரரைவிட்டு, வனாந்தரத்திற்குப் போகிற வழிக்கு நேராய்த் திரும்பி ஓடிப்போனார்கள்; ஆனாலும் யுத்தம் அவர்களைத் தொடர்ந்தது; பட்டணங்களில் இருந்தவர்களும் தங்கள் நடுவே அகப்பட்டவர்களைக் கொன்றுபோட்டார்கள்.

Therefore they turned their backs before the men of Israel unto the way of the wilderness; but the battle overtook them; and them which came out of the cities they destroyed in the midst of them.

இப்படியே பென்யமீனரை வளைந்து கொண்டு துரத்தி, கிபியாவுக்குக் கிழக்குப்புறமாக வருமட்டும், அவர்களை லேசாய் மிதித்துப்போட்டார்கள்.

Thus they inclosed the Benjamites round about, and chased them, and trode them down with ease over against Gibeah toward the sunrising.

இதினால் பென்யமீனரிலே பதினெண்ணாயிரம்பேர் விழுந்தார்கள்; அவர்களெல்லாரும் பலவான்களாயிருந்தார்கள்.

And there fell of Benjamin eighteen thousand men; all these were men of valour.

மற்றவர்கள் விலகி, வனாந்தரத்தில் இருக்கிற ரிம்மோன் கன்மலைக்கு ஓடிப்போனார்கள்; அவர்களில் இன்னும் ஐயாயிரம்பேரை வழிகளிலே கொன்று, மற்றவர்களைக் கீதோம் மட்டும் பின்தொடர்ந்து, அவர்களில் இரண்டாயிரம்பேரை வெட்டிப்போட்டார்கள்.

And they turned and fled toward the wilderness unto the rock of Rimmon: and they gleaned of them in the highways five thousand men; and pursued hard after them unto Gidom, and slew two thousand men of them.

இவ்விதமாய் பென்யமீனரில் அந்நாளில் விழுந்தவர்களெல்லாரும் இருபத்தையாயிரம்பேர்; அவர்களெல்லாரும் பட்டயம் உருவுகிற பலவான்களாயிருந்தார்கள்.

So that all which fell that day of Benjamin were twenty and five thousand men that drew the sword; all these were men of valour.

அறுநூறுபேர் திரும்பிக்கொண்டு ஓடி, வனாந்தரத்திலிருக்கிற ரிம்மோன் கன்மலைக்குப் போய், ரிம்மோன் கன்மலையிலே நாலு மாதம் இருந்தார்கள்.

But six hundred men turned and fled to the wilderness unto the rock Rimmon, and abode in the rock Rimmon four months.

இஸ்ரவேலரோ பென்யமீன் புத்திரர் மேல் திரும்பி, பட்டணத்தில் மனுஷர் தொடங்கி மிருகங்கள்மட்டும் கண்டவைகள் எல்லாவற்றையும் பட்டயக்கருக்கினால் வெட்டி, கண்ட பட்டணங்களையெல்லாம் அக்கினியால் கொளுத்திப் போட்டார்கள்.

And the men of Israel turned again upon the children of Benjamin, and smote them with the edge of the sword, as well the men of every city, as the beast, and all that came to hand: also they set on fire all the cities that they came to.

நியாயாதிபதிகள் அத்தியாயம் 21

இஸ்ரவேலர் மிஸ்பாவிலே இருக்கும்போது: நம்மில் ஒருவனும் தன் குமாரத்தியைப் பென்யமீனருக்கு விவாகம்பண்ணிக்கொடுப்பதில்லை என்று ஆணையிட்டிருந்தார்கள்.

Now the men of Israel had sworn in Mizpeh, saying, There shall not any of us give his daughter unto Benjamin to wife.

ஆகையால் ஜனங்கள் தேவனுடைய வீட்டிற்குப்போய், அங்கே தேவசந்நிதியிலே சாயங்காலமட்டும் இருந்து, சத்தமிட்டு, மிகவும் அழுது:

And the people came to the house of God, and abode there till even before God, and lifted up their voices, and wept sore;

இஸ்ரவேலின் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தாவே, இன்று இஸ்ரவேலில் ஒரு கோத்திரம் குறைந்து போகத்தக்கதாக இஸ்ரவேலில் இந்தக் காரியம் நேரிட்டது என்ன என்றார்கள்.

And said, O LORD God of Israel, why is this come to pass in Israel, that there should be to day one tribe lacking in Israel?

மறுநாளிலே, ஜனங்கள் காலமே எழுந்திருந்து, அங்கே ஒரு பலிபீடத்தைக் கட்டி, சர்வாங்கதகனபலிகளையும் சமாதானபலிகளையும் செலுத்தினார்கள்.

And it came to pass on the morrow, that the people rose early, and built there an altar, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings.

கர்த்தருடைய சந்நிதியில் மிஸ்பாவுக்கு வராதவன் நிச்சயமாய்க் கொலை செய்யப்படக்கடவன் என்று அவர்கள் பெரிய ஆணையிட்டிருந்தபடியால், இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர்: கர்த்தருடைய சந்நிதியில் சபைகூடினபோது, இஸ்ரவேலுடைய எல்லாக் கோத்திரங்களிலுமிருந்து வராதே போனவர்கள் யார் என்று விசாரித்தார்கள்.

And the children of Israel said, Who is there among all the tribes of Israel that came not up with the congregation unto the LORD? For they had made a great oath concerning him that came not up to the LORD to Mizpeh, saying, He shall surely be put to death.

இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் தங்கள் சகோதரராகிய பென்யமீனரை நினைத்து, மனஸ்தாபப்பட்டு: இன்று இஸ்ரவேலில் ஒரு கோத்திரம் அறுப்புண்டு போயிற்றே.

And the children of Israel repented them for Benjamin their brother, and said, There is one tribe cut off from Israel this day.

மீந்திருப்பவர்களுக்கு மனைவிகள் கிடைக்கும்படி நாம் அவர்களுக்காக என்ன செய்யலாம்? நம்முடைய குமாரத்திகளில் ஒருத்தியையும் அவர்களுக்குக் கொடுப்பதில்லை என்று நாம் கர்த்தர்மேல் ஆணையிட்டுக் கொண்டோமே.

How shall we do for wives for them that remain, seeing we have sworn by the LORD that we will not give them of our daughters to wives?

இஸ்ரவேலின் கோத்திரங்களில் மிஸ்பாவிலே கர்த்தருடைய சந்நிதியில் வராதேபோன யாதொருவர் உண்டோ என்று விசாரித்தார்கள்; அப்பொழுது கீலேயாத்திலுள்ள யாபேசின் மனுஷரில் ஒருவரும் பாளயத்தில் சபைகூடினபோது வரவில்லை.

And they said, What one is there of the tribes of Israel that came not up to Mizpeh to the LORD? And, behold, there came none to the camp from Jabeshgilead to the assembly.

ஜனங்கள் இலக்கம் பார்க்கப்பட்டபோது, கீலேயாத்திலிருக்கிற யாபேசின் குடிகளில் அங்கே ஒருவரும் இருந்ததில்லை.

For the people were numbered, and, behold, there were none of the inhabitants of Jabeshgilead there.

உடனே சபையார் பலவான்களில் பன்னீராயிரம்பேரை அங்கே அழைத்து: நீங்கள் போய், கீலேயாத்திலுள்ள யாபேசின் குடிகளை ஸ்திரீகளோடும் பிள்ளைகளோடும் பட்டயக்கருக்கினால் வெட்டுங்கள்.

And the congregation sent thither twelve thousand men of the valiantest, and commanded them, saying, Go and smite the inhabitants of Jabeshgilead with the edge of the sword, with the women and the children.

சகல ஆண்பிள்ளைகளையும், புருஷரை அறிந்த சகல பெண்பிள்ளைகளையும் சங்கரிக்கக்கடவீர்கள் என்று அவர்களுக்குக் கட்டளையிட்டு அனுப்பினார்கள்.

And this is the thing that ye shall do, Ye shall utterly destroy every male, and every woman that hath lain by man.

இவர்கள் கீலேயாத்திலுள்ள யாபேசின் குடிகளிடத்திலே புருஷரை அறியாத நானூறு கன்னிப்பெண்களைக் கண்டு பிடித்து, அவர்களைக் கானான்தேசமான சீலோவிலிருக்கிற பாளயத்திற்குக் கொண்டுவந்தார்கள்.

And they found among the inhabitants of Jabeshgilead four hundred young virgins, that had known no man by lying with any male: and they brought them unto the camp to Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan.

அப்பொழுது ரிம்மோன் கன்மலையிலிருக்கிற பென்யமீன் புத்திரரோடே பேசவும், அவர்களுக்குச் சமாதானம் கூறவும், சபையார் எல்லாரும் மனுஷரை அனுப்பினார்கள்.

And the whole congregation sent some to speak to the children of Benjamin that were in the rock Rimmon, and to call peaceably unto them.

அப்படியே அக்காலத்தில் பென்யமீனர் திரும்ப வந்தார்கள்; கீலேயாத்திலிருக்கிற யாபேசின் ஸ்திரீகளில் உயிரோடே வைத்த பெண்களை அவர்களுக்குக் கொடுத்தார்கள்; அப்படிச் செய்தும் அவர்கள் தொகைக்குக் காணாதிருந்தது.

And Benjamin came again at that time; and they gave them wives which they had saved alive of the women of Jabeshgilead: and yet so they sufficed them not.

இஸ்ரவேல் கோத்திரங்களிலே கர்த்தர் ஒரு பிளப்பை உண்டாக்கினார் என்று ஜனங்கள் பென்யமீனருக்காக மனஸ்தாபப்பட்டார்கள்.

And the people repented them for Benjamin, because that the LORD had made a breach in the tribes of Israel.

பென்யமீன் கோத்திர ஸ்திரீகள் அழிந்தபடியினாலே, மீதியான மற்றப்பேர்களுக்கும் மனைவிகள் கிடைக்கும்படி என்ன செய்யலாம் என்று சபையின் மூப்பரானவர்கள் கேட்டு,

Then the elders of the congregation said, How shall we do for wives for them that remain, seeing the women are destroyed out of Benjamin?

இஸ்ரவேலில் ஒரு கோத்திரம் நிர்மூலமாகாதபடிக்கு, தப்பினவர்களுடைய சுதந்தரம் பென்யமீனுக்கு இருக்கவேண்டுமே,

And they said, There must be an inheritance for them that be escaped of Benjamin, that a tribe be not destroyed out of Israel.

நாமோ நம்முடைய குமாரத்திகளில் அவர்களுக்கு பெண் கொடுக்கக்கூடாது; பென்யமீனருக்குப் பெண் கொடுக்கிறவன் சபிக்கப்பட்டவன் என்று, இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் ஆணையிட்டார்களே என்றார்கள்.

Howbeit we may not give them wives of our daughters: for the children of Israel have sworn, saying, Cursed be he that giveth a wife to Benjamin.

பின்னும், இதோ, பெத்தேலுக்கு வடக்கே பெத்தேலிலிருந்து சீகேமுக்குப் போகிற பாதைக்குக் கிழக்காகவும் லிபோனாவுக்குத் தெற்காகவும் இருக்கிற சீலோவிலே வருஷந்தோறும் கர்த்தருக்குப் பண்டிகை கொண்டாடப்படுகிறதே என்று சொல்லி,

Then they said, Behold, there is a feast of the LORD in Shiloh yearly in a place which is on the north side of Bethel, on the east side of the highway that goeth up from Bethel to Shechem, and on the south of Lebonah.

அவர்கள் பென்யமீன் புத்திரரை நோக்கி: நீங்கள் போய், திராட்சத்தோட்டங்களிலே பதிவிருந்து,

Therefore they commanded the children of Benjamin, saying, Go and lie in wait in the vineyards;

சீலோவின் குமாரத்திகள் கீதவாத்தியத்தோடே நடனம் பண்ணுகிறவர்களாய்ப் புறப்பட்டு வருகிறதை நீங்கள் காணும்போது, திராட்சத்தோட்டங்களிலிருந்து புறப்பட்டு, உங்களில் அவரவர் சீலோவின் குமாரத்திகளில் ஒவ்வொரு பெண்ணைப் பிடித்துப் பென்யமீன் தேசத்திற்குக் கொண்டுபோங்கள்.

And see, and, behold, if the daughters of Shiloh come out to dance in dances, then come ye out of the vineyards, and catch you every man his wife of the daughters of Shiloh, and go to the land of Benjamin.

And it shall be, when their fathers or their brethren come unto us to complain, that we will say unto them, Be favourable unto them for our sakes: because we reserved not to each man his wife in the war: for ye did not give unto them at this time, that ye should be guilty.

பென்யமீன் புத்திரர் அப்படியே செய்து, நடனம்பண்ணுகிறவர்களிலே தங்கள் தொகைக்குச் சரியான பெண்களை மனைவிகளாகப் பிடித்துக்கொண்டு, தங்கள் சுதந்தரத்திற்குத் திரும்பிப்போய், பட்டணங்களைப் புதுப்பித்துக் கட்டி, அவைகளில் குடியிருந்தார்கள்.

And the children of Benjamin did so, and took them wives, according to their number, of them that danced, whom they caught: and they went and returned unto their inheritance, and repaired the cities, and dwelt in them.

இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரரும் அக்காலத்திலே அவ்விடம் விட்டு அவரவர் தங்கள் கோத்திரத்துக்கும் தங்கள் குடும்பத்துக்கும் போய், அவரவர் தங்கள் சுதந்தரத்தில் சேர்ந்தார்கள்.

And the children of Israel departed thence at that time, every man to his tribe and to his family, and they went out from thence every man to his inheritance.

அந்நாட்களிலே இஸ்ரவேலில் ராஜா இல்லை; அவனவன் தன்தன் பார்வைக்குச் சரிப்போனபடி செய்து வந்தான்.

In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes.

அப்போஸ்தலர் அத்தியாயம் 23

பவுல் ஆலோசனைச் சங்கத்தாரை உற்றுப்பார்த்து: சகோதரரே, இந்நாள்வரைக்கும் எல்லா விஷயங்களிலும் நான் நல்மனச்சாட்சியோடே தேவனுக்குமுன்பாக நடந்துவந்தேன் என்று சொன்னான்.

And Paul, earnestly beholding the council, said, Men and brethren, I have lived in all good conscience before God until this day.

அப்பொழுது பிரதானஆசாரியனாகிய அனனியா அவனுக்குச் சமீபமாய் நின்றவர்களை நோக்கி: இவன் வாயில் அடியுங்கள் என்று கட்டளையிட்டான்.

And the high priest Ananias commanded them that stood by him to smite him on the mouth.

அப்பொழுது பவுல் அவனைப்பார்த்து: வெள்ளையடிக்கப்பட்ட சுவரே, தேவன் உம்மை அடிப்பார்; நியாயப்பிரமாணத்தின்படி என்னை நியாயம் விசாரிக்கிறவராய் உட்கார்ந்திருக்கிற நீர் நியாயப்பிரமாணத்திற்கு விரோதமாய் என்னை அடிக்கச் சொல்லலாமா என்றான்.

Then said Paul unto him, God shall smite thee, thou whited wall: for sittest thou to judge me after the law, and commandest me to be smitten contrary to the law?

சமீபத்திலே நின்றவர்கள்: தேவனுடைய பிரதானஆசாரியரை வைகிறாயா என்றார்கள்.

And they that stood by said, Revilest thou God's high priest?

அதற்குப் பவுல்: சகோதரரே, இவர் பிரதானஆசாரியரென்று எனக்குத் தெரியாது; உன் ஜனத்தின் அதிபதியைத் தீது சொல்லாயாக என்று எழுதியிருக்கிறதே என்றான்.

Then said Paul, I wist not, brethren, that he was the high priest: for it is written, Thou shalt not speak evil of the ruler of thy people.

பின்பு அவர்களில், சதுசேயர் ஒரு பங்கும் பரிசேயர் ஒரு பங்குமாயிருக்கிறார்களென்று பவுல் அறிந்து: சகோதரரே, நான் பரிசேயனும் பரிசேயனுடைய மகனுமாயிருக்கிறேன். மரித்தோருடைய உயிர்த்தெழுதலைப்பற்றிய நம்பிக்கையைக் குறித்து நான் நியாயம் விசாரிக்கப்படுகிறேன் என்று ஆலோசனைச் சங்கத்திலே சத்தமிட்டுச் சொன்னான்.

But when Paul perceived that the one part were Sadducees, and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, Men and brethren, I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee: of the hope and resurrection of the dead I am called in question.

அவன் இப்படிச் சொன்னபோது, பரிசேயருக்கும் சதுசேயருக்கும் வாக்குவாதமுண்டாயிற்று; கூட்டம் இரண்டாகப் பிரிந்தது.

And when he had so said, there arose a dissension between the Pharisees and the Sadducees: and the multitude was divided.

என்னத்தினாலென்றால், சதுசேயர் உயிர்தெழுதல் இல்லையென்றும், தேவதூதனும் ஆவியும் இல்லையென்றும் சொல்லுகிறார்கள். பரிசேயரோ அவ்விரண்டும் உண்டென்று ஒப்புக்கொள்ளுகிறார்கள்.

For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, neither angel, nor spirit: but the Pharisees confess both.

ஆகையால் மிகுந்த கூக்குரல் உண்டாயிற்று. பரிசேய சமயத்தாரான வேதபாரகரில் சிலர் எழுந்து: இந்த மனுஷனிடத்தில் ஒரு பொல்லாங்கையும் காணோம்; ஒரு ஆவி அல்லது ஒரு தேவதூதன் இவனுடனே பேசினதுண்டானால், நாம் தேவனுடனே போர்செய்வது தகாது என்று வாதாடினார்கள்.

And there arose a great cry: and the scribes that were of the Pharisees' part arose, and strove, saying, We find no evil in this man: but if a spirit or an angel hath spoken to him, let us not fight against God.

மிகுந்த கலகம் உண்டானபோது, பவுல் அவர்களால் பீறுண்டுபோவானென்று சேனாதிபதி பயந்து, போர்ச்சேவகர் போய், அவனை அவர்கள் நடுவிலிருந்து இழுத்துக் கோட்டைக்குக் கொண்டுபோகும்படி கட்டளையிட்டான்.

And when there arose a great dissension, the chief captain, fearing lest Paul should have been pulled in pieces of them, commanded the soldiers to go down, and to take him by force from among them, and to bring him into the castle.

அன்று இராத்திரியிலே கர்த்தர் பவுலின் அருகே நின்று: பவுலே, திடன்கொள்; நீ என்னைக்குறித்து எருசலேமிலே சாட்சிகொடுத்ததுபோல ரோமாவிலும் சாட்சிகொடுக்கவேண்டும் என்றார்.

And the night following the Lord stood by him, and said, Be of good cheer, Paul: for as thou hast testified of me in Jerusalem, so must thou bear witness also at Rome.

விடியற்காலமானபோது, யூதரில் சிலர் ஒருமித்து, தாங்கள் பவுலைக் கொலைசெய்யுமளவும் புசிப்பதுமில்லை குடிப்பதுமில்லையென்று சபதம்பண்ணிக்கொண்டார்கள்.

And when it was day, certain of the Jews banded together, and bound themselves under a curse, saying that they would neither eat nor drink till they had killed Paul.

இப்படிக் கட்டுப்பாடுபண்ணிக்கொண்டவர்கள் நாற்பதுபேருக்கு அதிகமாயிருந்தார்கள்.

And they were more than forty which had made this conspiracy.

அவர்கள் பிரதானஆசாரியர்களிடத்திலும் மூப்பர்களிடத்திலும் போய்: நாங்கள் பவுலைக் கொலைசெய்யுமளவும் ஒன்றும் புசிப்பதில்லையென்று உறுதியான சபதம்பண்ணிக்கொண்டோம்.

And they came to the chief priests and elders, and said, We have bound ourselves under a great curse, that we will eat nothing until we have slain Paul.

ஆனபடியினால் நீங்கள் ஆலோசனைச் சங்கத்தாரோடே கூடப்போய், அவனுடைய காரியத்தை அதிக திட்டமாய் விசாரிக்க மனதுள்ளவர்கள்போலச் சேனாதிபதிக்குக் காண்பித்து, அவர் நாளைக்கு அவனை உங்களிடத்தில் கூட்டிக்கொண்டுவரும்படி அவரிடத்தில் கேட்பீர்களாக. அவன் கிட்டவருகிறதற்குள்ளே நாங்கள் அவனைக் கொலைசெய்ய ஆயத்தமாயிருப்போம் என்றார்கள்.

Now therefore ye with the council signify to the chief captain that he bring him down unto you to morrow, as though ye would enquire something more perfectly concerning him: and we, or ever he come near, are ready to kill him.

இந்தச் சர்ப்பனையைப் பவுலினுடைய சகோதரியின் குமாரன் கேள்விப்பட்டு, கோட்டைக்குள்ளே போய், பவுலுக்கு அறிவித்தான்.

And when Paul's sister's son heard of their lying in wait, he went and entered into the castle, and told Paul.

அப்பொழுது பவுல் நூற்றுக்கு அதிபதிகளில் ஒருவனை அழைத்து, இந்த வாலிபனைச் சேனாதிபதியினிடத்திற்குக் கூட்டிக்கொண்டுபோம்; அவரிடத்தில் இவன் அறிவிக்கவேண்டிய ஒரு காரியம் உண்டு என்றான்.

Then Paul called one of the centurions unto him, and said, Bring this young man unto the chief captain: for he hath a certain thing to tell him.

அந்தப்படியே அவன் இவனைச் சேனாதிபதியினிடத்திற்குக் கூட்டிக்கொண்டுபோய்: காவலில் வைக்கப்பட்டிருக்கிற பவுல் என்னை அழைத்து, உமக்கொரு காரியத்தைச் சொல்லவேண்டுமென்றிருக்கிற இந்த வாலிபனை உம்மிடத்திற்குக் கொண்டுபோகும்படி என்னைக் கேட்டுக்கொண்டான் என்றான்.

So he took him, and brought him to the chief captain, and said, Paul the prisoner called me unto him, and prayed me to bring this young man unto thee, who hath something to say unto thee.

அப்பொழுது சேனாதிபதி அவனுடைய கையைப்பிடித்துத் தனியே அழைத்துக்கொண்டுபோய்: நீ என்னிடத்தில் அறிவிக்கவேண்டிய காரியம் என்னவென்று கேட்டான்.

Then the chief captain took him by the hand, and went with him aside privately, and asked him, What is that thou hast to tell me?

அதற்கு அவன்: யூதர்கள் பவுலின் காரியத்தை அதிக திட்டமாய் விசாரிக்க மனதுள்ளவர்கள்போல, நீர் நாளைக்கு அவனை ஆலோசனைச் சங்கத்தாரிடத்தில் கொண்டுவரும்படி உம்மை வேண்டிக்கொள்ள உடன்பட்டிருக்கிறார்கள்.

And he said, The Jews have agreed to desire thee that thou wouldest bring down Paul to morrow into the council, as though they would enquire somewhat of him more perfectly.

நீர் அவர்களுக்குச் சம்மதிக்கவேண்டாம்; அவர்களில் நாற்பதுபேருக்கு அதிகமானவர்கள் அவனைக் கொலைசெய்யுமளவும் தாங்கள் புசிப்பதுமில்லை குடிப்பதுமில்லையென்று சபதம்பண்ணிக்கொண்டு, அவனுக்குப் பதிவிருந்து, உம்முடைய உத்தரவுக்காக இப்பொழுது காத்துக்கொண்டு ஆயத்தமாயிருக்கிறார்கள் என்றான்.

But do not thou yield unto them: for there lie in wait for him of them more than forty men, which have bound themselves with an oath, that they will neither eat nor drink till they have killed him: and now are they ready, looking for a promise from thee.

அப்பொழுது சேனாதிபதி: நீ இவைகளை எனக்கு அறிவித்ததாக ஒருவருக்குஞ்சொல்லாதே என்று கட்டளையிட்டு, வாலிபனை அனுப்பிவிட்டான்.

So the chief captain then let the young man depart, and charged him, See thou tell no man that thou hast shewed these things to me.

பின்பு அவன் நூற்றுக்கு அதிபதிகளில் இரண்டுபேரை அழைத்து, செசரியா பட்டணத்திற்குப் போகும்படி இருநூறு காலாட்களையும், எழுபது குதிரை வீரரையும், இருநூறு ஈட்டிக்காரரையும், இராத்திரியில் மூன்றாம்மணி வேளையிலே, ஆயத்தம்பண்ணுங்களென்றும்;

And he called unto him two centurions, saying, Make ready two hundred soldiers to go to Caesarea, and horsemen threescore and ten, and spearmen two hundred, at the third hour of the night;

பவுலை ஏற்றி, தேசாதிபதியாகிய பேலிக்ஸினிடத்திற்குப் பத்திரமாய்க் கொண்டுபோகும்படிக்குக் குதிரைகளை ஆயத்தப்படுத்துங்களென்றும் சொன்னதுமன்றி,

And provide them beasts, that they may set Paul on, and bring him safe unto Felix the governor.

ஒரு நிருபத்தையும் எழுதினான்; அதின் விவரமாவது:

And he wrote a letter after this manner:

கனம்பொருந்திய தேசாதிபதியாகிய பேலிக்ஸ் என்பவருக்குக் கிலவுதியுலீசியா வாழ்த்துதல் சொல்லி அறிவிக்கிறது என்னவென்றால்:

Claudius Lysias unto the most excellent governor Felix sendeth greeting.

இந்த மனுஷனை யூதர் பிடித்துக் கொலைசெய்யப்போகிற சமயத்தில், நான் போர்ச்சேவகரோடே கூடப்போய், இவன் ரோமனென்று அறிந்து, இவனை விடுவித்தேன்.

This man was taken of the Jews, and should have been killed of them: then came I with an army, and rescued him, having understood that he was a Roman.

அவர்கள் இவன்மேல் சாட்டின குற்றத்தை நான் அறியவேண்டுமென்று இவனை அவர்கள் ஆலோசனைச் சங்கத்துக்குமுன் கொண்டுபோனேன்.

And when I would have known the cause wherefore they accused him, I brought him forth into their council:

இவன் அவர்களுடைய வேதத்திற்கடுத்த விஷயங்களைக்குறித்துக் குற்றஞ்சாட்டப்பட்டவனென்று விளங்கினதேயல்லாமல், மரணத்துக்காவது விலங்குக்காவது ஏற்ற குற்றம் யாதொன்றும் இவனிடத்தில் இல்லையென்று கண்டறிந்தேன்.

Whom I perceived to be accused of questions of their law, but to have nothing laid to his charge worthy of death or of bonds.

யூதர்கள் இவனுக்கு விரோதமாய்ச் சர்ப்பனையான யோசனை செய்கிறார்களென்று எனக்குத் தெரியவந்தபோது, உடனே இவனை உம்மிடத்திற்கு அனுப்பினேன்; குற்றஞ்சாட்டுகிறவர்களும் இவனுக்கு விரோதமாய்ச் சொல்லுகிற காரியங்களை உமக்கு முன்பாகவந்து சொல்லும்படி அவர்களுக்குக் கட்டளையிட்டேன். சுகமாயிருப்பீராக, என்றெழுதினான்.

And when it was told me how that the Jews laid wait for the man, I sent straightway to thee, and gave commandment to his accusers also to say before thee what they had against him. Farewell.

போர்ச்சேவகர் தங்களுக்குக் கட்டளையிட்டபடியே, பவுலைக் கூட்டிக்கொண்டு, இராத்திரியிலே அந்திப்பத்திரி ஊருக்குப் போய்,

Then the soldiers, as it was commanded them, took Paul, and brought him by night to Antipatris.

மறுநாளில் குதிரைவீரரை அவனுடனேகூடப் போகும்படி அனுப்பிவிட்டு, தாங்கள் கோட்டைக்குத் திரும்பினார்கள்.

On the morrow they left the horsemen to go with him, and returned to the castle:

அவர்கள் செசரியா பட்டணத்தில் சேர்ந்து, நிருபத்தைத் தேசாதிபதியினிடத்தில் கொடுத்து, பவுலையும் அவன் முன்பாக நிறுத்தினார்கள்.

Who, when they came to Caesarea, and delivered the epistle to the governor, presented Paul also before him.

தேசாதிபதி அதை வாசித்து: எந்த நாட்டானென்று கேட்டு, சிலிசியா நாட்டானென்று அறிந்தபோது:

And when the governor had read the letter, he asked of what province he was. And when he understood that he was of Cilicia;

உன்மேல் குற்றஞ்சாட்டுகிறவர்களும் வந்திருக்கும்போது உன் காரியத்தைத் திட்டமாய்க் கேட்பேனென்று சொல்லி, ஏரோதின் அரமனையிலே அவனைக் காவல்பண்ணும்படி கட்டளையிட்டான்.

I will hear thee, said he, when thine accusers are also come. And he commanded him to be kept in Herod's judgment hall.
