மதிப்பிற்குரிய போதகர் ஆல்பர்ட் என். மார்ட்டின் (1934–2026) இன்று மகிமைக்குள் பிரவேசித்தார். சீர்திருத்த கிறிஸ்தவ உலகம் போதகர் ஆல்பர்ட் என். மார்ட்டின் அவர்களின் பிரிவால் துயரடைகிறது. இன்றைய காலகட்டத்தில் புகழ்பெற்ற பல போதகர்கள் மோசமான தனிப்பட்ட மற்றும் குடும்ப வாழ்க்கையைக் கொண்டிருப்பதைக் காண்கிறோம். ஆனால், அவர்களிலிருந்து முற்றிலும் மாறுபட்ட ஒரு உன்னத சாட்சியாகப் போதகர் மார்ட்டின் திகழ்ந்தார். அவர் ஒரு மாபெரும் ஆவிக்குரிய தலைவராக இருந்தாலும், அவரும் நம்மைப் போன்ற சாதாரண பாடுகளுக்கு உட்பட்ட ஒரு மனிதர்தான். அவருடைய அன்பு மனைவி புற்றுநோயால் மரித்தபோது, அவர் ஒரு இருண்ட பள்ளத்தாக்கின் வழியாகக் கடந்து சென்றார். அந்த ஆழமான துயரத்தின் மத்தியிலும், தேவனுடைய கிருபையை மட்டுமே சார்ந்து, வேதப்பூர்வமான நம்பிக்கையோடு எப்படித் துக்கப்பட வேண்டும் என்பதற்கு அவர் ஒரு முன்மாதிரியாக நின்றார். மேடையில் எப்படிப் பிரசங்கித்தாரோ, அதே பரிசுத்தத்தோடு தன் தனிப்பட்ட வாழ்க்கையிலும் அவர் வாழ்ந்து காட்டினார். "உங்களை நடத்தினவர்களை நீங்கள் நினைத்து, அவர்களுடைய நடக்கையின் முடிவைச் சிந்தித்து, அவர்களுடைய விசுவாசத்தைப் பின்பற்றுங்கள்" (எபிரெயர் 13:7) என்ற வேத வசனத்திற்கு அவர் ஒரு மிகச்சிறந்த உதாரணமாகத் திகழ்ந்தார்.

நியூஜெர்சியில் உள்ள ட்ரினிட்டி பாப்திஸ்து சபையில் 46 ஆண்டுகள் உண்மையான மேய்ப்பராக அவர் பணியாற்றினார். மிகச் சிறந்த பிரசங்கியாக இருந்தபோதிலும், அவர் ஒருபோதும் புகழைத் தேடியதில்லை. அவர் மக்களோடு மக்களாகப் பழகும் மிகவும் எளிமையான ஒருவராகவும், சிறந்த குடும்பத் தலைவராகவும் இருந்தார். தேவனுடைய மனிதன் என்பவன் முதலில் தன் குடும்பத்தை நேர்மையாக நடத்த வேண்டும் என்பதற்கு அவர் ஒரு சாட்சியாக வாழ்ந்தார்.

அவர் ஒருபோதும் மனிதர்களின் புகழ்ச்சிக்காக கிருபையின் உபதேசங்களில் எவ்வித சமரசமும் செய்துகொள்ளவில்லை. பிரசங்க மேடையைத் தாண்டி, அவர் 'டிரினிட்டி மினிஸ்டீரியல் அகாடமியை' (Trinity Ministerial Academy) இணைந்து நிறுவி, 20 ஆண்டுகள் போதகர்களுக்கான இறையியலைக் கற்றுக்கொடுத்து, அடுத்த தலைமுறை ஊழியர்களை உருவாக்கினார். மேலும், The Man of God, Preaching in the Holy Spirit போன்ற பல முக்கியமான புத்தகங்களையும் அவர் எழுதியுள்ளார்.

அவர் இவ்வுலக ஓட்டத்தை முடித்துக்கொண்டாலும், அவருடைய குரல் இன்னும் ஒலித்துக்கொண்டே இருக்கிறது. அவருடைய பிரசங்கங்கள் அனைத்தும் sg-audiotreasures.org என்ற இணையதளத்தில் பொக்கிஷமாகப் பாதுகாக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன. தமிழ் பேசும் விசுவாசிகளுக்கும் அவருடைய ஆவிக்குரிய வளங்கள் சென்றடையும் வகையில், அவருடைய மிக முக்கியமான "பிரியாவிடைச் செய்திகள்" மதிப்பிற்குரிய திருமதி வினோதா சுரேந்தர் அவர்களால் எளிய தமிழில் நேர்த்தியாக மொழிபெயர்க்கப்பட்டு, தற்போது அச்சு வடிவில் புத்தகமாகக் கிடைக்கின்றன.

"நான் கிறிஸ்துவைப் பின்பற்றுகிறதுபோல, நீங்களும் என்னைப் பின்பற்றுகிறவர்களாயிருங்கள்" (1 கொரிந்தியர் 11:1) என்று பவுல் அப்போஸ்தலன் கூறினார். போதகர் மார்ட்டின் கிறிஸ்துவை உண்மையோடு பின்பற்றியதால், நாமும் அவருடைய முன்மாதிரியைப் பின்பற்றுகிறோம். இப்படிப்பட்ட உத்தம விசுவாசிகளை அங்கீகரிப்பதும், அவர்கள் காட்டிய வழியில் நடப்பதும் முற்றிலும் வேதப்பூர்வமானதே.

ஜான் பனியனின் மோட்சப் பயணம் புத்தகத்தில் வரும் 'நம்பிக்கை' (Hopeful) என்ற பாத்திரம், தான் விசுவாசித்ததை நேரில் காணும் வரை தனது நம்பிக்கையை ஒருபோதும் இழக்கவில்லை. அதே தைரியத்தையும், சகிப்புத்தன்மையையும்தான் நாம் போதகர் மார்ட்டின் அவர்களின் வாழ்விலும் காண்கிறோம். இந்த உத்தம ஊழியரை நாம் நினைவுகூரும்போது, அவரைப் பலப்படுத்திய தேவனைத் துதிக்கிறோம். அவருடைய ஊழியத்தின் பலன்கள் நித்திய காலம் வரை நிலைத்திருந்து விசுவாசிகளை நல்வழிப்படுத்தும் என்பதில் எந்த சந்தேகமும் இல்லை.

ஒவ்வொரு விசுவாசியின் வாழ்க்கையையும் தொடங்கி முடிப்பவரான இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவுக்கே எல்லா மகிமையும் உண்டாவதாக!

In Memory of a Faithful Servant....

Respected Pastor Albert N. Martin (1934–2026) entered into glory today. The Reformed Christian world mourns the loss of Pastor Albert N. Martin. In today's era, we see many famous preachers who have poor personal and family lives. However, Pastor Martin stands out as a noble witness, completely contrasting with them. Even though he was a great spiritual leader, he was a man subject to the same ordinary sufferings as we are. When his beloved wife passed away from cancer, he walked through a dark valley. Yet, even in the midst of that profound sorrow, relying solely on the grace of God, he stood as an example of how to grieve with biblical hope. He lived his personal life with the exact same holiness with which he preached from the pulpit. He was an excellent example of the biblical verse, "Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation" (Hebrews 13:7).

For 46 years, he served as a true shepherd at Trinity Baptist Church in New Jersey. Despite being an outstanding preacher, he never sought fame. He was a very simple man who mingled closely with the people, and a great family leader. He lived as a witness to the fact that a man of God must first lead his own family with integrity.

He never made any compromises in the Doctrines of Grace for the sake of human praise. Beyond the pulpit, he co-founded the 'Trinity Ministerial Academy', taught theology to pastors for 20 years, and raised up the next generation of ministers. Furthermore, he authored several important books, including The Man of God and Preaching in the Holy Spirit.

Though he has finished his earthly race, his voice continues to echo. All of his sermons are preserved as treasures on the website sg-audiotreasures.org. So that his spiritual resources may reach Tamil-speaking believers, his most important "Farewell Sermons" have been elegantly translated into simple Tamil by respected Mrs. Vinotha Surender, and are currently available as a printed book.

The Apostle Paul said, "Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ" (1 Corinthians 11:1). Because Pastor Martin faithfully followed Christ, we too follow his example. Acknowledging such faithful believers and walking in the path they have shown is entirely biblical.

In John Bunyan's book The Pilgrim's Progress, the character 'Hopeful' never lost his hope until his faith became sight. We see that exact same courage and endurance in the life of Pastor Martin. As we remember this faithful servant, we praise the God who strengthened him. There is no doubt that the fruits of his ministry will endure for eternity, continuing to guide believers on the right path.

All glory to Jesus Christ, the author and finisher of every believer's life! By grace alone!
